No harm done OP, I looked at doing this to an LT1 the other day and I was really interested to see the pics in this thread and there seemed to be a serious lack of them.

I am currently about 95% done and this last 5% has been the biggest pain. I am trying to attach a coupler, bellow, (anything that will work) from my 85mm MAF to the TB. Right now I am ATTEMPTING to use a stock C4 bellow as it allows you to flex but it is STILL being a lil b*t%$

I am excited about completing this mod. I have had the idea for about 6 years now and never really made the idea into a reality, till now.

Parts list:
LS1 Radiator Support
Fast Toys 85mm lid
85mm Z06 MAF
Speed Inc Chrs1313 Ram Air

I should have this done by the weekend and will defiinitely share the results.

It's looking quite promising!!

I used two 4" x 3" straight couplers. The lid to MAF was not modified. The MAF to TB I had to cut on an angle. The angle cut of the couple at the TB got it close enough for it all to come together nicely IMO.

here is a crappy cell phone pic about 90% done

Nice Larry ... its looking good. Where did you pick up these straight couplers? I tried the plumbing departments at Menards, Home Depot, and Lowes but all I am finding is the Ferno couplers that I tried to size up but still no luck.

Looking good guys. I would love to do this, along with the chrs1313 ram air, which would allow me to run a fuse-area dedicated setup as well.

Larry - What hood are you running, and any cutting needed to clear the lid?

Anyone know (or have any ideas) of an aftermarket hood which may clear without modification to the LS1 radiator support or hood? While not my favorite hood and probably not of the greatest quality, I wonder if something like this would clear:

Maybe I'll see if they could send me pictures of the underside.

if you did the ls1 front end conversion on a 96 camaro do you still need to trim up the ls1 lid support? is the reason people trim it because it doesn't clear the old style hood and front end? should it clear with the conversion? I will find out soon enough I guess since I am going to be working on this during the weekend when I start putting the motor back in. just trying to get an idea before I get to that point.

If you swapped to a ls1 front end you will not need to cut anything, the lid and accessories will all bolt up and work like it would on a ls1 car.

Like I said, not a favorite of mine either. I'm just looking for ideas of something that may clear the lid without hacking either the hood or radiator support.

Regarding your strong opinion of the hood, while I'm sure not near the quality (as the price reflects), IMO, that hood is not that far off from the Ultra Z or Suncoast hood. I think the Suncoast hood may have a chance of clearing, but it will cost double, and I think the Ultra Z (LT1-version) is no longer in production.

thanks man, I really appreciate that answer, and it is an answer I like very much.

I assume I will still have to modify the radiator fan shroud since I have an electric water pump though correct since it might interfere?

Which Sunoco do you have? The standard one (2.5" I think) or the tall one? I have the short one and I had to trim a LOT from the radiator cover/filter holder for it to clear, and of course cut a lot from the hood. After all of that, it is still a very tight fit and I had to move the hood latch up a tad so it closes. It doesn't look like you trimmed the radiator cover a lot on that picture. I assume you have the tall sunoco?

thanks

I wanted it to appear neat stock as for the air box. This is still very tight and has touched a hair in places.
