I might have to pick up a LS1 support and do it this way. 1-2mph for the lid conversion, then possibly 1-2 more with an "induction persuader" sounds pretty tempting.

Great tread and information. Way to keep these LT1's breathing.

Sorry Ive been lazy lately and i haven't touched it. I probably wont for a while either, im going back to school tomorrow too. But for what its worth, ive only trimmed a bit around the maf & lid outlet and the hood is only a half inch at most from closing right now. It will actually close as-is if i force it, but obviously im not gonna do that lol. The top outer edges of the lid are what is hitting right now.

I have an aftermarket SS hood and the underskin support seems to hang a little lower than the stock hood ive got hanging on the wall next to the car.

i cant say ive ever done it, but id imagine it should be a direct swap. The issue overcome in this thread is the clearance of the LT1 hood.

the ftra is about 1/3 the size of my non ac intake...so alot less airflow...when my car was stock internal I gained 1.2mph going to my new intake...being cam only now and hitting 9mph more in the 1/4 mile I am sure that gain is more near 1.4-1.5mph over a ftra...the faster you go the more the intake acts like a supercharger...(IIRC at 100mph air will compress to about .25psi, not much but every bit counts)

I really like how you incorporated NBS parts into your OBS car Joel.

Really nice job and thanks for the great right up.

I would really like to know if the sunoco hood could be trimmed a little like black94z28's cowl hood was. Would make a direct bolt in a more appealing option to me. I'm partial to that sunoco hood.

I believe the slope of the hood is the same as the sunoco hood, maybe if someone can get a picture of the underside of one, it would be easier to tell. Although you just need to open up the area under the scoop.

BTW, noticed no change in the sturdyness of the hood once the area was trimmed.

Hey Black94Z28, I sent you a P.M. about this. I really like your setup!!!! And they both look super clean, look alot better than the sheet metal ones!

I don't see myself doing this but for anyone who is thinking about it, how does this compare to the LT1 WS6 ram air setup?

I would think air going into the filter from the hood grills would be better than air coming up from the ground?

bottom feeders can actually be better due to the size of the valance that catches air beneath the car, vs the two small inlets int he hood.

i suggest reading some of chrs1313's threads about ram air. He has some very scientific data about it.

hmm, interesting. since i have no desire to cut any metal on my car and since i was lucky enough to find an oem LT1 WS6 airbox for $115 i'm gonna stick with that. i was just curious for people who haven't bought the LT1 box yet since it is becoming hard to find and pricey (i saw one posted here last week for $325)

Hey Hoss, the biggest clearence issue is right behind the latch correct? You don't have issues with the exit of the lid right?
