Default what head gaskets for 355?

After getting the motor put together i realized the crank snout threads were all jacked up. So I took it all apart to have that fixed. Anyway in the process the head gaskets got a little banged up. So my question is what bore size and thickness could i get to bump up the compression a little. It's bored to 4.030. I have heard of using the impala's which .026 compressed i think? Also i need to be able to get it from oriely or somewhere. Since i need to have the car running by the end of the week i don't have time to wait for head gaskets in the mail.

Go with the Impala head gasket. They are .028 and will give you the slight compression bump you want. They are available pretty much everywhere, including dealers.

Wow. They must have been really jacked up. Normally a tap will fix them right up. As far as gaskets are concerned you aren't going to see any sort of performance gain going with either the Impala or stock. Your choice.

As Ramair says you can just get the impala head gasket from your local parts store. THat will increase compression and will be perfect for your build.

I use Victor Reinz 5898 less than $50 for the set to your door...

They are the exact same as the .026 Mr. Gasket but less money and better packaging...

They will bump your compression a little...

oh if you go to your local parts store be sure and check the thickness of the gasket they give you...Most of them stock Fel pros and they are .039 for the impalas or the Camaros/Firebirds just a generic replacement....

Ask me how I know

jegs an summit could get you gaskets by the end of the week..if you want to bump compression get fel pro shim gaskets..you will need to mod them a little to work on a lt1..but there only .015 thick...my compression math showed me on a stock 10.4-1 lt1 it will raise comp to 11.25-1...dont use compression calculators on the net either..do it my hand an get it right to figure out the comp.
