How high guys spin motors will depend largely on the heads and cam/valvetrain.

Share a little info about your setup and we can get you in the ballpark of where to start shifting it.

im running lt4 le3 heads, with cc306 cam that had to be grinded on to clear the rods, not really exactly sure what springs, its been so long ago that i started the build, lt4 port matched intake, forged shortblock *scat parts* all is studded.... thats the basics, also computer rev limiter is at 7250, i am gona adjust it with msd digi 6!

a forged 383 shortblock should be good for 8k+ at this power level. the more important factor at that point would be the valvetrain/heads/cam/intake. but since the LT1 pcm will never get there, i wouldnt worry about it.

I don't know if the cam shaft needs to be spun that high. I ran a cam slightly larger than a 306 and shifted it at 6800. It ran 10.68 @ 126. I would start lower and raise it as the car needs it. If the car doesn't improve with ET then there is no need to spin it higher. Your just wearing those valve springs down faster.

the 112 lsa and big split on the cc306 will let you carry the rpms pretty far past peak, but the same factors dont make much midrange either. i think 6600 is a good starting point for you, how much compression are you running?

put a real gear in that thing like a 4.11 and you could run something around 238/246 on a 108+3 which would run great with a 4000 stall. Take weight out of the car and you could run about 6 degrees bigger all around. Im a fan of bigger cams though...
