Time for new exhaust,opinions
Hey guys its been a long time since I posted since my firebird has been down since last February and will be till winter. Anyways I got a magnaflow on it and drove it for about 150 miles and hated it. So I may have it sold to someone and I am looking into a new exhaust. I am wanting something a little bit louder since the stock exhaust sounded better than the magnaflow. So I am looking into maybe a slp loudmouth or making a true dual setup. What would you guys recommend. I am also looking for some rasp. Some hate it, I love it. For the guys with true duals how hard was it so setup.

True duals with X pipe. No substitute when coupled to longtubes. X pipe kit from Jegs or Summit is a great start and leaves room for a pair of high flow cats if you need them in your area or cutouts if you want them. Your choice of mufflers after the X. Some do Dynomax bullets, some do glasspacks, some do a single chamber or 2 chamber muffler. My current project "red car" is getting Pacesetter 2239s, 3" to X, 2.5" back to a pair of Dynomax Ultraflow Welded mufflers, 45* turndowns. Weirdo X pipe I got from TorqueTech last year pinches the rear part of the X from 3 to 2.5" and been dying to use it.

i dont have true duals, but
i just removed my catalytic converter and put a single 3inch mandrel bent catback with a thrush muffler on, its pretty loud, definetly louder than the flowmaster si/do i had on it.. it has more rasp to it also, it definetly flows better than the flowmaster si/do did..

Yeah But I am a poor college student that has dropped every dime he owns trying to get this car running again. In the last 18 months the engine was taken apart 2 times then rebuilt. Then it blew up. So some more money for another engine. That along with 3 bad clutches. And to finish it all my t-56 is finished off thanks to a bad input shaft bearing. 1/4 inch of play is a little to much. Would love to have it but can't afford it.

The Loudmouth is your best option in my opinion. They can be found for cheap and they're loud as hell. True duals are a nice idea but to be built right and have decent clearance they will cost way more. Plus with the Loudmouth if you decide down the road that it's too loud you just change the muffler.

my 3inch thrush muffler cost $40, the 3inch mandrel bent pipe come from autozone from a commercial sales person through a friends business, the pipe cost 90.00 it was a Vortex brand pipe.. muffler shop bolted up the pipe and installed muffler and tailpipe for $30..
i cant believe its 2010 and no one around me has a mandrel bender.

Yeah the car has some longtube headers and an off road y-pipe. I might end up getting my buddies slp loudmouth. He is going to a true dual setup and will not be needing it. If all else fails and the magnaflow does not sell ill cut the i-pipe up and put in a cutout.

My current setup is in my sig but I'm debating running a true dual setup next year once the motor mods start coming. My thought was to run an X-pipe with two Powerstick chambered mufflers with turn downs. It should be pretty loud. I ran the same mufflers on my IROC and man, shook the windows in my house just idling. Powersticks are the cheap alternative to the GMMG.
