whats the difference between head studs and head bolts?
I have head bolts now on my H/C/I lt1. I will be putting my new 383 in my car in a few weeks and need to know if i need head studs? i will be using stock cast LE heads and be running about 15lbs of boost.
does anyone know the P/N on LT1 studs?

If running boost why not run studs... they're cheap insurance for your head gaskets. What CR are you going to be running. IF running a relatively high CR def get studs.
Oh studs allow a more precise torque measurement for the head, and also stretch less.

The reason I ask I wouldn't want to have to pull the motor to change head gaskets. I know there is no way we would have clearance to pull the heads with studs in place!

first off its easier for a race engine builder to build a motor with studs than bolts.....its just pain out faster to assemble........but more importantly, when you torque a bolt down its encountering two forces a rotational stress from torquing the bolt tight and a vertical axis sretch from the bolt being pulled apart......the roatational stress can skew the proper torque reading.....when we use a stud....the bolt is encountering only a vertical axis stress there fore alowing the bolt to be torqed down more properly and therefore prevents any lifting and shifting of the cyl head better than a bolt........
huh????
