Default LT1 hate or just stupidity?

Anyone remember that 385CI LT1 I dyno'd recently?

https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...ock-heads.html

I offered a buddy deal of $2500-2800 to a friend that blew up his engine in an airboat that previously had a SBC 383 with milled stock steel heads in it for high compression.

That guy acted like I was trying to sell him a giant pile of dog ****. People really hate LT1s. I was trying to help him out as duck season is running out and he won't be able to use his airboat this year if he has to build a new engine. That LT1 I have is complete ready to go (just needs a coil and air filter) and would cost over $6,000 to duplicate. I don't even really want to sell the engine since I'm putting it into that drag Camaro to learn in.

I don't know if it is just LT1 hate this guy has or just lack of knowledge, anyone have any LT1 hate experiences?

There is a lot of LT1 hate on a local site I am on.

People seem to forget that the LT1 was designed 8 years before the LS1.

Even if the optispark was designed better, you cant make everyone happy.

It doesnt help that LSx applications are insanely cheap. I would 5.3lsx my car in a heartbeat if I had the money.

its kinda depressing for us lt1 guys, I notice it all the time. Your only hope is to build a badass lt1 and shut um up. the Ls1 is still a better motor I think we all know that but we definitely get hated on, and it seems to me imports get more respect than the lt1

Yea after I learn how to drive that drag car build a nasty turbo setup and just keep telling people it is a SBC. Mine runs a rear distributor anyways so I might be able to fool them.

people want the newer stuff. you can buy them for cheap out of a junkyard in running condition. they are fairly easy to work on in terms of o-rings on the intake and stuff like that. you can put a cam in one and make 400rwhp. what i still dont care for is the cost of a standard rebuild. its still kinda pricey compared to a sbc/LT1.

the LT1 has recieved a reputation of killing optisparks. everything that goes wrong with an LT1 is always blamed on the opti. opti opti opti.

Yea I can't believe the price that they get away with for ls1 gaskets, bearings, and bolts. At least the LT1 and SBC share enough to keep them cheap.

This is the number one reason for the step-child treatment of the LT1. Gen I or Gen II motors require a shitload of work to put an honest 400 to the ground. An LS1 requires nothing more than buying the car and paying someone else to install a cam and your a contender at any hangout spot.

1. The cars are expensive
2. The motors are expensive
3. The parts are expensive

I understand that the LS series motors are an improvement over LT and SBC, but not everybody has that much to shell out.

Dang he passed up a hell of a deal. Most people are out for the newer shiny stuff though.
I have passed up a couple good deals on some LS motors just because of some of the reasons Catmaigne listed.

Yea the sad thing is that the guy was a mechanic for years. Had those massive Matco toolboxes loaded with tools. I was real hesitant to even offer it to him for that price. He **** on me for it and it was way better that the stock headed SBC he had before.

No wonder he ain't a mechanic anymore.

I'd say ignorance, but having said that I'm not sure where you guys are getting your prices from but LS1s are not that expensive. Especially if you go a 5.3 or 4.8 route.

And I don't agree that the LSx is a better engine, it just has way better heads stock and ported than the LTx platform. If a person is willing to spend the money to convert a good set of 18*, 15* or SB 2.2 heads then you can meet or exceed the hp/tq of a LSx.
