Brought a B-body for new project car
This past weekend I brought a 94 Chevy caprice classic ls for $900. I was looking for a 4 banger daily driver or another fbody to swap my lt1 into, but this ended up being a deal I couldn't pass up. The exterior/interior needs some work but the engine runs really good and hauls *** for a big car..plus the brakes work perfectly. My plans for the next couple of weeks will be to fix and/or replace the damaged parts and swap the lt1 out of my camaro to it. If anyone has info on the b-body...specs, option codes, known problems, parts, cheap mods would be great thanks!

[QUOTE=camar0corey;16047519]I can't find one that hasn't been hit by Donk Disease and completely ruined anymore. I saw a stock one this morning and about had my jaw hit the ground.
My step brother had a 92, it sure was a nice car to ride around in. Definitely would make a nice daily driver.[/QUOTEF]
There are some of us out there with bbodys that do other things than donk them. Like run 9 sec 1/4 miles with them LOL

IMO one of the most comfortable cars GM ever built.
My dad had 4 of them in the 90's, and his last one he put over 600,000kms on, then sold it to a guy he knows that still drives it!!
Enjoy the big'ol'boat. They are great cars!

Don't swap a stock f-body engine into it, the f-body engine makes it torque a LOT later in the rpm range. The HP difference is in the tuning intake tract and exhaust more than in the engine, plus your 94 motor has the step backwards unvented opti, so in the end you would be further ahead to just reprogram the pcm in the b-body and do some very basic boltons and have a better matched setup.
People like to fixate on the additional 15hp the f-body had BUT it made a little less peak torque a couple thousand rpm later, and the b-body motor is 87 octane tuned. In full bolton form the b-body motor makes similar peak numbers to the f-body BUT retains a lowend torque advantage. You bought an over 4000lbs car that probably has 2.93s out back and a 1400stall converter, you want that lowend torque.
If you have a modded engine you want to swap in then the car needs a LOT of work to support it first, all the intake and exhaust stuff as well as at least a shift kit and stall if you are willing to gamble on the existing tranny.

Since my camaro's engine is built with under 10k miles I was going to change the 306 cam to something close to whats in the b-body engine already, but has a little bump in power. The caprice has stock exhaust manifolds and according to the previous owner a custom blowmaster exhaust. Is the trans in the bbodies weak or can it take some abuse?

The little Lingenfelter grind compliments the car nicely.
Far as the tranny, same one as in the f-body some are good some bad, if bad it would have gone by now I would think and then the question is did the previous owner use a decent rebuilder.. They have an 8.5" axle though so that is pretty bulletproof.

try stansheaders not cheap as f-body stuff but the construction is really solid. I would probably do the Tri-Ys for plug access, I have 1 3/4" 4into1 and the plug access kind of sucks and their design is the same as the other company
I have bought longtubes from them and Clear Image and I wont ever spend a dime with Clear Image again.
