Default Ls1 lid vs over the radiator intake 3" ss hood

Ok guys I've been searching around and need some opinions. I've got a 95 Camaro with a vfn3" ss hood and I'm looking to ditch the cold air intake on.

I've read great things about the ls1 lid swap just not sure if it will fit with the vfn ss 3" hood?? I don't mind cutting up the core support but don't want to cut the hood at all. It has to look factory otherwise I'll never be happy with it. What do you guys think? Give it a try or no way it's going to fit given my hood?

I'm also considering an over the radiator style intake as well. I don't have ac so no condenser to worry about. I read a 3.5" pipe is the largest you can use and still clear the hood. Do you have to lay the radiator down rather? Or can you keep it in the factory location?

Lastly how do these intakes compare to each other? I know a lot of people see real et gains for the ls1 just wonder how the over the radiator set would compare?

Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks

Went a best of 13.8 @104 on my stock type cai, converted to the over the rad style with only 3" pipe and went 13.3 @109 first pass.

ls1 lid > other cai

Direct path is the best, no bends like the over the rad style.

Lid all day man. I have a 4 inch cowl, not sure the brand...could be a vfn but IDK, honestly dont care.

Use the lid, you will have a few inches of room if you cut up the underside of your hood. If you search you ll find lots of write ups on the swap

I kept my ac with my over the rad style but they do have a good point with a direct straight path with the lid, over the rad looks better in my opinion though

Ac is ready gone so not worried about that. I've got all the write ups saves on my computer already lol

Guess I'll start gathering parts for the ls1 lid swap.

You're willing to do this to your car but not cut the hood?

https://ls1tech.com/forums/16054322-post12.html

This is what mine looks like with a 3" trufiber cowl hood. No cutting to the hood or car at all.

I don't want to cut the hood because its harder make it look 'factory' cutting the core support will be hidden so no one can see it. I'd rather not cut either like you did but didn't think it was possible to do...
Your car looks super clean. Can you post some pix with the lid off?

EDIT: just read your filter base is all factory so no need for pictures lol

O and I would not cut my core support like the link you posted. Way to messy, looks sloppy.

The more I look at the underside of the hood I just dont think there is enough room for the lid to clear and have it look clean...Anyone using the 3" ss have an ls1 lid?

The underside of the hood just doesnt have any clearance behind the latch like that cowl speed demon posted.

Bumping this back up top for anyone one that has the ss hood and a lid! As much as I want the lid set up I dont think I can make it fit under the vfn!

This is with a 4 inch 45* bend pipe, no a/c, radiator(huge griffin) in stock location.

I did notch the core support, 2.5 inch cowl hood.

Are your spark Plug wires factory length or did you have to custom make them longer?

Thanks,

Joe

I cut my core support and used the factory hood. With the lid down you cant see it. I also have the CHRS1313 ram air setup on there because I dont have AC anymore. No real results yet though its been a while since I was at the track without other issues.

Yes, it can be done with the 3" SS VFN hood and lid only.... The base will not fit. I cut the Rad support and actually had to trim down the sides of the lid itself so it would sit a little lower. You will want the lid down as far as you can and cut the back hole to match up with the TB. If you don't do this it will hit the hood for sure... I will load up some pics later on. Mine is a nice clean look though not such a hack job like some out there. Take your time and it can turn out pretty decent. I still would like to redo mine one day because I think it could always be better of course.....

That's what I wanted to hear^
Although I'm not sure how it would look with out the base. What are you using to hold the rad? I'll wait for the pics lol
