Default chandler motorsport billet optispark?

Why is this thing so cheap????

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-1997-Hi...#ht_8788wt_932

I dont drive my car much at all but im replacing the whole ignition system lots of misfiring, and have other things id rather waste money on if this will get the job done.

Quick search will tell you all you need to know.

TL;DR: Don't risk it.

While I have no experience with this optispark, I like it. Considering what it would cost to make just the billet housing, the price is definitely right. I also like the harness connection into the distributor; sealed with strain relief. I know the development of this unit goes back to (at least) 2009.

From a production cost standpoint, I don't see why this would be billet aluminum (the shape would mean a lot of stock waste). It sure looks billet, but a good casting (non-porous) would machine cleanly to look like billet. Some SBC/BBC distributors advertised as billet are actually castings that look shiny because they have been machined.

I'd buy it.

Most of us have no problems with Delco units. Those that have lots of problems are usually more the problem themselves than the parts are.

I bought a cardone from Advance Auto. They come with a lifetime warranty and 10k miles later I'm having no problems.

Get the Delphi Opti or the A/C Delco unit. The cheap units are Chinese and they have been proven not to last. Some people have had luck with them, mine lasted only 1600 miles and I don't know why. I know it's a tough pill to swallow, but the $300 is worth it for a Delphi with a year warranty.

Quality costs. I had the pleasure of changing mine and the 380 is well worth just the piece of mind if nothing else. The opti change was a ******* pain in the *** so I did the cam swap at the same time. Don't skimp on the opti.

Welcome to the real world. I don't want to be changing my opti every few months just because it has a lifetime warranty.

The CMS Optis are good, but they do have more of a tendency to be DOA than Delco.
