Default HELP!! Kooks Passenger Side Header will not line up with exhaust

In the process of installing Kooks headers (1 & 3/4X3) on a 97 Lt1 with Kooks catted Y pipe to my Borla. The drivers side header appears to line up with the left rear of the car and Kooks Y pipe, but the passenger side header collector lines up with the center rear of the car. I am thinking it should line up with the right rear. As you can see from the pictures, my Borla to Y pipe is off by about 4 inches. This can not be normal and I didn't pay good money for this.

Has anybody ever ran into this issue before? Thanks.

Is your borla specific made for the lt1? As someone didn't make an LS cat-back fit onto your car. I can't tell from your picture but the Y is suppose to lean/ bend one way more than the other to meet the cat-back.

It's kinda hard to tell, but based on this picture, , it looks like there may be too much bend in the passenger side of the y-pipe.

I would call Kooks, or whoever you purchased from, and I suspect they would send you a new y-pipe.

Looks to me to be just another routine header install where fit is never 100% (does not matter even if its a Kooks product) and a little creativity is required to get them on as intended. For a host of reasons, most all cars respond different to a header install.

If in the end the replacement pipe (assuming you get one) does not fit, cut a relief slit in the pipe and then bend it then weld up the slit. You will never bend that pipe without a relief cut. My LPP Y-pipe did that similar thing too.

on that note... i'd just heat it up and bend it. Done it before and I'm sure it won't be the last time.

Kooks thinks the issue may be the Y pipe was made incorrectly. I suspect the header may have an issue with it. Some tweaking on these cars is understood but you should not have to cut and weld for this kind of money. I appreciate your responses and will let you know how it all works out.

My stuff from Kooks pretty much fit like a glove. I didn't have to bend, pry etc.

Default Update -

Kooks confirmed thru my other pictures which I did not post that the header is the culprit. They are sending me a new one. It did take me pressing the issue and staying persistent for them to admit it. We will see how things go when I get it.

That looks like my y-pipe picture you posted. The y-pipe should line up exactly where the factory catback exhaust was. Good to hear Kooks is making it all right, I think you'll be pleased once you get it all bolted in correctly.

So the passenger side header is screwed up? Why not post your other pictures? I would be interested in seeing them.

Here it is installed in my T/A. When installed, it should clear the stock tunnel brace.

I would rip that ds loop out in the first 30 seconds of driving my car after installing it.

I know, I was worried about speed bumps the first time I drove with it on. My brother sent it to me because it didn't clear his exhaust, but I might have to swap it for a different one if I end up lowering it.

Default More Pics

Sorry I did not post these earlier. The passenger side header collector is pointed towards the rear end and not more towards the right rear (which I think it should be by an inch or so) New header has arrived but it is hard to tell if it is any different. I'll soon find out. I asked Kooks to also send me another Y pipe but they were sure it was the header. I hope so.

This is why it is always better to just buy the headers and have the y-pipe custom made.

After looking at your latest pictures, particularly 505, I still think it looks like there is a whole lot more bend in the passenger side of the y-pipe compared to the other picture I posted.

Default Problem Solved

Installed new header and the collector pointed towards the right rear at least an inch more than the last header that caused the issue. Kooks Y pipe fits and was able to get everything together. It was just my bad luck that I got a bad passenger side header. Thanks for everybody's input and help.
