Default Do these dyno #'s sound accurate?

First time having the car on a dyno yesterday. 1994 Camaro Z28 m6. pacesetter longtube headers, cat-delete, ory-pipe, slp loudmouth exhaust, k&n cai, 4.10 gears. Car has 160,000 on body but was told that the engine was rebuilt at 100,000 but i don't have the paperwork. Compression tested the engine and each cylinder had good compression. Dyno pulls were in 4th gear starting at 2000rpm on a Mustang dyno.
Dyno Results: 251hp, 267tq.
Not sure if these are reasonable numbers that i should expect and I just had too high of expectations or if i'm loseing power somewhere.

No tune? Mustang dyno? Sounds about right.

i plan on getting it tuned very shortly but will i really see a substantial difference with a tune considering i only have bolt-ons? and i have heard many people say that mustang dynos give lower #'s does anyone know why? i mentioned it to the dyno owner and they said "a dyno is a dyno, there is no difference from one to the next".

On a Mustang dyno it's anyone's guess. They usually read lower than a Dynojet. The norm for a bolt-on manual lt1 is in the 290 to 310rwhp ballpark on a Dynojet. Go see what the track says.

Thanks guys, i'm sure its just the mustang dyno and needs a tune. I was just very dissapointed in the #'s considering lt1 f-body's with same bolt-ons showed much better #'s (usually on dynojets). The vehicle definitely performs compared to my old stock 94 z28 m6 hence why i was expecting to see something like 280rwhp/310rwtq. Just wanted to get a few opinions before i let those sad #'s get to my head. Any idea what I should pick up with a pcm tune from Madz28 or pcmforless? any opinions on who's tune they prefer between madz28, pcmforless, or getting it dyno-tuned at Race Proven Motorsports? Thanks again!

IMO a tune isn't necessary for bolt-ons, but that's just me...

The guy I bought my car from had a madz28 performance tune done and he said it made a noticeable difference. Madz28 does $50 updates to his tunes for when you make changes down the road. Heck he even gave me the 50 buck update price on the tune the PO of my car bought. I hope he doesn't stop tuning LT1s.
As for your HP, this spring get your car to the track and see what mph it traps. Thats the true measure.

SS RRR, I wouldn't do a dyno tune on a bolt on car but a mail tune can optimize pcm settings for using premium fuel.

Hahahah alright i get it, i get it! I will be done school in 2 months so it will definitely see the strip this summer at cecil county if i don't sell it for a 98 camaro ss (sorry guys, i still love lt1's but im not sure if i can pass up a 98ss garage kept with 20k miles!). I want to get a tune to correct the speedometer for the 4.10 gears and change the tune to premium octane since the car will only see 93 octane as long as I own it. I will save the dyno tune for after the car gets a cam installed if i decide to hold onto it. Btw Quick95lt1, love your car! I remember seeing the videos back in 2011, car is a beast!

When I did my headers, I drove it around the block for a bit and was super pissed off because it didnt feel any faster. I thought Id wasted a bunch of money. Then I installed the tune, and it felt alot faster.

250 isn't too bad for exhaust only on a mustang dyno. I wouldn't worry about it.

Like said, take it to the track and see what it traps.

Thanks guys, definitely going to get on that then. Hopefully the body shop will keep my car for more than 3 days so i can send the pcm out (fellow employee hit it at my dealership ). After I get the pcm done I will post new #'s from the same dyno since we can dyno our cars for free at my school.

Make sure to go to that same dynoshop after the tune to see if you did gain power as well as the track if you can...

I dynoed 275/300 with bolts ons and a built auto. so you should be a little higher depending on the dyno and weather that day.

Hi, i am new to this site. I want to know a rough estimate of rwhp. I have a 94 z28. it has KN cai, granatelli mass airflow, trick flow 90, twin 58tb, underdrive pulley, edelbrock performer rpm intake, slp 160 thermostat, pacesetter long tubes, 3'' magnaflow cat back, hypertech programmer, and am currently installing a detroit locker with 3.42 gears at the rear. any and all estimates would be appreciated.

There is a sticky with a dyno archive at the top of this forum that should give you all you need to know. If it's a manual car with those kind of bolt-ons it could dyno anywhere from 270 to 300rwhp with around 310rwtq.

Here's a link to the dyno archive:
