Default Operating Temps

Its been a long time since I have regularly driven my car so I forget what "normal" is temp wise.

EWP, 160* thermostat, bled coolant system, 80* OAT and cruising at ~70mph puts the temperature from waterpump at 195-200.

Is that normal? At idle it cools right back down.

I think that may be around normal. Aren’t you running more than stock CID? That’s about where mine is on the freeway. How many GPM on the w/p? Imma ‘bout to do the HD Meziere to see what happens.
Isn’t this also a rebuilt engine?

That's about normal, usually your operating temps will be around 20* above the thermostat rating, like a 160 will usually run at 180, add in the extra cubes, that's ok.

ALL my motors run the thermostat temperature unless they're really getting beat on hard. Even then, they usually don't go up much if at all. The stock radiator shroud on these cars is a joke. That and being bottom feeders they get a lot of crap lodged into the AC and radiator. I'd blast those clean and think really hard about a better shroud. I had to make my own.

When I replaced my water pump last fall I flushed the block 4 times through the WP holes (took opti off), I flushed the radiator 4 times through the cap and hoses, I flushed and back flushed the heater core 4 times as well. I was amazed on how much crap came out of the entire system the first couple of flushes. Along with the new water pump I installed a new OE AC Delco thermostat 131100 and a new AC Delco cap RC94 with a 50/50 mix of green antifreeze.
In just about any drive condition the car runs at approx 192*. It may run 190* at times, it may get up to 195*.
As stated above make sure there is no debris in front of the radiator or condenser. Maybe I’m lucky but after I did those things I just dont see the cooling nightmares people claim about an LT1. My cooling system is spot on perfect.

I plan on dumping the mystery mix of coolant and flushing it, perhaps this weekend. Then refill with a 75 water/ 25 coolant ratio.

I have a large intercooler blocking the radiator, if that counts as debris.

What kind of shroud do you have? Anything at all?

I fabbed up some cardboard to seal the area around the hood latch and then the sides of radiator into engine bay.

What are you fan settings? I run 210 with a 160 stat but I think the fan settings are wrong. I've got a big IC up front too.

Got pics? If it's sealed well you may be limited by the size of the bottom breather opening. It's a good bit smaller than a C5 Corvette's opening.

Below 40mph: Fan 1 is on at 185, off at 180. Fan 2 is on at 190, off at 187

I wonder if the FMIC is having any effect on your coolant temps as I'm building a turbo 4th Gen Camaro with a huge FMIC (31x12x5) and I'm going to install dual 11" draw thru fans with a shroud to my intercooler and wire the relays to come on with the engine fans and/or when the A/C comes on for this very reason.
And I think I will copy Shownomecy's radiator sealing parts to aid in cooling.

Well, IAT match ambient when cruising so can't complain there.

As of now, drained the block (least half of it) and then filled/flushed/repeated a few times. Its now full of water and a water wetter bottle, plus whatever was left in the block that did not want to drain.

Sits at 180* at 70mph with 50-60* ambient temps. Curious to see what it will do when the hotter weather comes back.

Wouldn’t have been easier to get those two pieces used from a yard or Hawks and just bolt them on?
