I have thought the same thing
I wish I could move on but to be completly honest. Since the newer cars coming out with 400+ horsepower, 2005 GTO, Corvette, Cobra Mustang, and so on, I have lost interest and the biggest pocket will win....

why i have my 2 LT1's and not a ls1????
well my 95LT1 will walk most Ls1 as it did last summer
theres no need to spend 12k or more for a stock Ls1 and run low 13's when i can spend $800 and run 12's
both LT1's are paid for
both have been modded and maintained by my own hands and no shops
my LT1 sounds like my father in laws 69 SS
cheaper to mod
Ls1's sound computer anminated
and i can't wait until the ls1's get older in there years and start to collect miles i woud like to see how easy all the aluminum parts are to remove "the softer the metal the easier to strip" then we will see how easy they are to work on..

im attempting to work something out where he can hook it up to everyone like 10% over cost so he can get more business, i know i got my comp cam for $180 new and i just paid $20 to ship it ups fragile so i try to get all my parts from him all the time but theres some companys that won't give him good prices because he's not demanding/buying enough of there product so the more he can sell the more companys that he can pick up ya know... but like i said it's all up to him and hopefully he will do it..

To do something like that here on the board, I believe he has to be a Supporting Advertiser like all of those guys----------------------------------------------------------------------->
That would be very cool though.
I thought of another reason why I dont get rid of my LT1.......Its loud, everything rattles, its got no back seats, the t-tops leak, the windows dont seal, its got no A/C, and we always take somebody elses car whenever we go out.

i have an lt1 becasuse i bought her cheap, she had been kept in the garage by a little old lady and her husband (and even had the pep boys oil-fluid change, dealership matinence recipts). its the last true line of muscle car. after the LS1 cars were cancelled, its going south just like the import scene did. now the guy with the deepest pockets has the fastest car, and he dosent even have to be an enthusiast. all he has to do is go to the dealership. busted knuckles and curse words modify this small block chevy. i dont think its a question of why for alot of us, i think its just in our blood.

have to agree 100%. i honestly am tired of the horse power game. i want to see different stuff, pro touring themed cars and what they are doing is what im really liking now, but even then its whoever has the deepest pockets comes up with the coolest cars sometimes. so i stay with the tried and true LT1 becuase i like it.

Dispite being ragged on by the LS1 folks at the School, I'm hanging on to the LT1 because NOBODY offers a comparable vehicle to the 96 Impala SS for under $30k.
I do LOVE the C5, C6, GTO, CTS-V, and even the SSR, but it's gonna be a while before I can afford any of them...

Nice thread, I'm impressed by the replies so far. What I say next will probably shock you
I think the best looking 4th gen Camaro is the 96-97 SS. I really like them painted hugger orange with the white hood stripes. Red ones next of course. I've never really been a big fan of the 98+ style Camaro front ends, and I own two of them. As for Firebirds however, the 98+ WS6 Formulas look the best to me.
LT1 engines sound so much better than most LS1 engines. Even a nearly stock LT1 with a catback sounds pretty sweet. It typically takes several bolt-ons and a cam to make an LS1 sound good. I absolutely hate the rasp LS1s make around 2800 rpm with an offroad exhaust. UGLY sound. Thats why I hate wide open Borlas on LS1s. Wide open Borlas on LT1s sound absolutely awesome.
Of course, you can make LS1s sound good also, it just takes much less to make an LT1 sound good.
I'm not sure why some of you think the torque of an LT1 is better than an LS1. I've dynoed 100s of each type of car, and if you overlay the dyno graph of a stock LS1 on top of a stock LT1, the LS1 has it beat across the board on hp and torque. The main difference is that the LS1 revs smoother and runs quieter. So, the rumble and audible clues are less on the LS1, which might make the LT1 seem more aggressive in perception. We pretty much dispelled that "LT1 makes more torque" statement back in 98 when the LS1s came out and we dyno'd the hell out of them in stock form.
Another advantage seems to be the LT1 style T56 tranny. Seems like you guys have better clutches available. LS1 hydraulics are kinda sketchy sometimes, always have been.
Good discussion, keep it up!
Oh yeah, and this final note: Joe Overton for LT1 President! He has my vote
