Default Any way to improve LT1 intake?

There are upgrades for the LS1 intake, such as an LS6 intake. Is there any upgrade for the LT1 intake? Im running a 383 with roughly 500-550 at the motor, nothing huge. Is the intake an area where I could free up any ponies? Thanks, Nick.

Have it ported....Advanced Induction claims to be able to do some serious porting on a stock intake. They have a car running I think 10.1's on a stock intake N/A.

I've heard mixed reviews on putting the LT4 on an LT1, too costly to retrofit it onto LT1 heads, and the gains are very minimal. Would it be worth it to port my stocker, what can I expect for gains? Is the stocker a bottle neck for power?

It is a complete waste to fit a lt4 intake to lt1 heads. You'll be wasting serious money. I got my stock intake gasket matched to the fel-pro gaskets I use when I painted it.

unless you want to go to a custom instake there's not much u can do. going to the LT4 intake will do get you exactly nothing. there's a thread on this page somewhere that tells the exact differences between the LT1 and LT4 intakes.

Ive heard of people cutting them open and welding in additional material to get more plenum volume, but unless your trying to break a record it would be overkill. Just match your gasket and blend that shape all the way through the port; Then smooth the entries into the port and open up the inlet to match a 58mm TB. That should be plenty sufficient for almost any setup.

yea kinda lost in this area. nothing easy like for the ls1's. I did hear of a guy though that would do some nice port and polishing of it, then would take a plasma cutter and cut away a lot of the extra material not needed, so not only would it flow better but lose some lbs. i saw it somewhere on theformulasource, but havent heard anything about it in a long time

This is one of those persistent WRONG rumors. People ASSume that since the LT4 was a higher performance version of the LT1 the intake was improved, but that would again be an ASSumption not fact.

I wasn't telling him to go with the lt4 intake, the purpose was to merely offer an option to explore, simply because people have done it and have "claimed" it helped them, thanks though for the ASSerting yourself

Anyone here ever had their LT1 intake extrude-honed? I'd imagine that's about as good as you could get without cutting and welding...

The 1997 LT1 intake matches the stock intake port on the LT1 heads (same port size and shape as the LT4 intake). I tried one on my car and it was no faster than the 94-96 intakes.

My buddy just had an LT4 intake extrude honed... It gives a glass like polished surface and really smoothes all the airflow paths... But it only increases the size of the existing port in the shape it was cast... In other words, you need to reshape the ports with a hand grinder before sending them out... Otherwise they just get it as close to the gasket as they can, which leaves the wrong shapes created by the casting and a poor match to the gasket...
I hope that was clear enough, but if not let me know and I'll try to get some good pics of my buddy's intake. With the pics I will try to show the poorly shaped match to the gasket.

I am selling my Converted Super vic with everything you need, Same intake that big rick ran on his Turbo 8.08 1/4 car. I have the center carbon Fiber peices and all. Comes with the 100 degree elbow, Polished 90mm TB, converted to Fuel injection (bungs welded in with polished looking fuel rails),
and converted to bolt-on. I have about 1650 in the whole setup that Bret Bauer is doing. Should get it back in a week along with my AFR LT4 heads that LE did. I am selling the WHOLE setup. All brand new never installed.

IF you guys want this badass intake (will improve the heads CFM numbers across the board and ultimatly let more air see the PISTON) I will sell it for 1250 SHIPPED to your door.
These intakes are about to start being the norm on high Hp cars. Hell the fastest guys run single plain's.
Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks

i bought a port/polished stocker with egr block off plate... it is deffinately worth it if you have heads/cam... the LT1 intake is pretty restrictive... i would also get a bigger throttle body, and if you don't have ram air, get a cold air kit. just my .02
