will I need a new carrier
I currently have the stock 2 73 gears. I was hoping to upgrade to either a 3:42 or a 3:55. will I need a neww carrier for the different gear ratio or no. Anyone have part numbers for either of these gears?

well I'm assuming that you have an automatic car, unless you have a 93 car. If I were you, I wouldn't mess around and get anything other than 3.73's. But as far as the carrier, I am also assuming that you do not have Traction control, but either way any reputable shop you call will set you up with the correct style, you don't need a new carrier. I think the Series 2 is what you have, again assuming all of the above, if im not mistaken 2 is the non tc rear carrier, and the series 3 is for those with TC, the difference is the rotator clip (i believe thats what its called, im really running blank on names right now so sorry)

no 3.55 gears only 3.23, 3.42 or 3.73
you have a 2 series carrier, you can find larger gears but they have to be for a 2 series carrier.
I THINK (could be off) anything with a 3.08 or lower gear is a 2 series 3.23 and up is a 3 from the factory
I know jegs sell 2 series up to 4.56, part number would depend on what brand you want. I just used good old GM gears

Yea, I've heard many people pleased with 3.73's, not too many complaints, not even about gas. The general rule that i go by and a lot others do is A4 go with 3.73's, MG go with 4.10's

Series 3 carrier is 3.23 all the way to 4.11's. I would upgrade to a new one with the 373's. That is what I have in an A4, and it goes like hell. I would say a new carrier, cause bigger tires will kill the stock one. I literally blew mine apart, and all I had was Headers, it was before the Cam. Not bad for an Auto....
