The firing order does not sound like anything. It's the order the cylinders fire. I believe it's the same order as previous SBCs. However I forget the order it is. Older gearheads could tell you the firing order like their phone numbers; I always have to look it up. Anyway, on the driver side you have the odd cylinders and on the pass side you have the even cylinders. The opti does not follow that sequence in regards to the terminals (from top to bottom nor bottom to top). I might look it up later.

Just about all chevy's have that firing order, even big blocks. Been that way for years, easy to remember. On the front of your OPTI should be the order of the plug wires for the side they are on. Wipe the front off with a rag and look for them, they will be raised numbers, and that order is top to bottom. I wrote it on the front of it after I found it, makes it alot easier. Odds on the drivers side, and evens on the passenger side.

To check if they were crossed, on the driver side, the wires in the distributor should go 1,7,3,5 (1 being the bottom of the engine, 5 being the top). On the passenger side, it should go 2, 8, 6, 4 (2 being the bottom of the engine, 4 being the top). But I doubt that's the problem unless you previously changed the wires yourself.

checked wires all good, i have noticed as we finally had a cool front come through texas to bring us out of the 90 degree heat that it runs better when it is cold, or hasnt been run for a while, and as the car heats up it begins to idle surge more, and i get the flutter/bog when i gun it in lower rpms, anyone have any ideas, and YES i do have the worse luck ever, cuz i jsut changed, plugs, wires, opti, waterpump, timing chain and all to try to get rid of it and to no avail it still dont have the power i so sorely have been seeking for the last 2 months since i got er'
