Default cheaper timing chain and gears

Where can someone pick up a timing chain and gears that wont break the bank?I'm finding out these little LT1's can be rather expensive to mod, maybe someone has a link to a site with one that will still be strong. Its for a 95 TA.Vented opti.Any help is appreciated..

From a good source you can get a new OEM one for like $60-70 last I checked for all three pieces. If you swap to an electric waterpump then you can use a gen1 chain, not that I am recommending that.

Not trying to jack your thread but, I was wondering the same thing. I have a 96' TA and the cheapest I found the Lt4 extreme timing set was $225 from GM parts direct. Any other timing sets?

The ED set will be a lot more than that the $70 was for a stock LT1 set from a place with good pricing, normal dealer markup is 100% on a lot of parts so your local dealer may be a whole lot more.

Quit fooling around with that heavy stock set, get the Meziere 55 GPM pump and any good aftermarket timing set. You'll cool better, after ditching the step-up drive gear you'll pick up 6 HP and the lighter timing gear will pose less load on the chainset. To me, this is such a better idea than the stock way it doesn't make any sense not to do it. You've already got that timing cover and water pump off, right?

Since I am ditching the garbage opti all together when it comes apart to get stroked it's getting a nice gen 1 style double roller.

Not to hijack his thread, but has anyone had their timing covers welded shut when replacing the opti with a distributer? I am thinking about using a custom cut piece of aluminum and making a weld in plug...just curious

Ah yes, that's right, the early ones have the teeny-tiny hole. My bad...
