Merv, looks like you got rid of that black box when you deleted your a/c. By any chance do you want to PM me and let me in on how you did it? Thanks!

Thats funny b/c when I got my K&N FIPK it came with a dyno sheet proving it adds 18rwhp to a stock LT1.

I tell you guys right now, this is a hell of alot of gain over the old CAI that I had in this Car..
This thing moves in the top end, 3rd at 75mph will throw you into the seat, and all I have is the little LT4 Hotcam.

You like that..there's all kinds of room there..
I just took out the Dremel and cut the Face of the Box off until it was flush with the Fire Wall. I did that so I could keep my Heat intact since the Heater Core is inside of the Car. Then I cut a piece out of the way on the inside so the Blower Motor can still blow into the Core and get me Heat. After all that was done, I cut-fit and bolted an Aluminum Panel on the Fire Wall. It was easy, and a hell of alot more convienent with the AC gone.

I had a thread a while back of it, it's a hell of alot easier with no Engine in there..

You have to cut a piece of plastic out of the center of the box when you cut the face of it off so the Blower Motor will still hit the Heater Core. It works fine, I have all kinds of room in there, and still have heat.

Thank you Merv!!! I think I'll have to wait till my engine is out to do that one! But the heat still works fine?

Is everyone using the 98-99 or 00-02 style air lid to do the LS1 intake conversion? What is the difference?

Yea, I got heat. It doesn't blow as strong as it did cause the Air paths in there changed, but it still works. That **** is something you keep..

I bet it does in some spots, but not enough for me to have found it yet. I got some rubber on the spots where it's flush to seal it. The metal is cut pretty tight on it too.

I love how people keep hacking up their cars to do this mod when there hasn't been 1 before/after dyno posted yet.

- would be alot easier to change/clean the filter than my CAI.
- Would make a little more room in the engine bay
- Hard to believe it offers NO GAIN over a stock or typical CAI. (some people will nickle and dime every hp they can get. 5 here, 2 here, 10 here, 4 here.... starts adding up.)

I would prefer to just get a hood that would fit a stock LS1 shroud in there so I wouldn't have to cut up the metal in front of the radiator.
