OK..you see where it is, now get a Fan and some smoke if you have to, and you will see the Air Flow through there and how it goes..I can only explain it so much..

I think Merv is correct about where the air comes from... It hits the lip under the car and goes up in front of the radiator/condenser. normal Lt1s just have the shroud covering the top and all the air is forced through the radiator/condenser. the LS1 conversion lets it come through the top part into the lid straigh to the intake. I have seen something where someone covered some of the radiator with piece of sheet metal to force more air up through the top vs. through the rad. Either way, the faster you go, the more air gets pushed through. forgive the retard pic but here's a MS paint sketch of how mine looks and I'm assuming unless you guys removed pieces a stock camaro should have these parts somewhat like I've drawn....

I'm still wondering about the stock LS1 shroud fitting under a sunoco hood. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller??

Since this has been brought back from the dead. How are those of you who have converted holding the lid down? I saw Merv and Ellis's setup used screws, but can you elaborate?

Think its closer to 3.5 on a stock MAF, try your local LOWES, they have some Fernco type couplers. If not try the local 18 wheeler shop....they have stuff like that.

I am not even going to go into this mess again. Heat RISES is all you need to know. DO a scan of IAT temps on this setup VS a CAI.

SOmeone already did a track comparison with no gains....BUT if you shielded the radiator heat you would have something. Cooler air makes more power, we all know that. Most of the guys who have done this mod have the filter SITTING on TOP of the radiator...come on guys.

All it would take is a piece of sheetmetal with some of that stick on heat shielding on the back..simple, but I have yet to see someone do it.

You shouldn't have to wait too much longer. I'll be taking the SLP lid off of my 98 and putting it on my 93. I'll be making a ram air setup like the FTRA to help against the hot air. Should be a month - month and a half before the whole car's done.

Show some photos of the system installed in a car. Show photos of the product itself, outside a car.

Then show us the dyno numbers of the car, before and after the install.

Yea..heat rises when you are sitting still..

So basically you are saying that when you are moving and the Air deflects off of the Air Dam that is INFRONT of the SLANTED Radiator that it's hot Air from the Radiator..?

Yea...I'm not buyin that one..expecially how I have mine..

After all the brain damage I got about my sealed to the hood ram air box having NO advantage over a CAI.....you are gonna tell me that the air deflector under the car pushes up enough air to have an affect on ANYTHING? COme on dude.

Run you car down the interstate, pop the hood and put you hand on ANYTHING near the radiator...hot aint it? If you look at a STOCK LS1 setup, the bottom of the box is isolated from the radiator/condenser.

These guys that cut a damn hole in the core support and set the filter on TOP of the radiator and condenser have got to be crazy if they think that is helping the car.

But I tell ya what, you go on thinking that it is the best mod since glass packs.

I made a little piece of metal on the back of the Lid, and bent the Radiator top pieces to fit it in. It's secured in the front by a couple Bolts. The Stainless pieces on the side hold the Radiator up in place.

Actually..mine is cold..all around it.

We can go back and forth all day with this..your experiences aren't the same as everyone elses, and the same could be said for me as well.

Guys Ive been collecting parts for a few months for this conversion. Ive now got it on (as of yesterday), this is what I used:

SLP lid and K&N
LS1 shroud
4in to 3in rubber adapter hose (for the TB to MAF, bought at Home Depot)
3in to 3in rubber hose (for the MAF to the Lid, also bought at Home Depot)
Fast Toys air induction
2.5in fiberglass hood

All is installed, I didnt hack up the car at all. I did cut the plastic piece off of the bottom of the shroud so I could have a place for the FTRA. It was put in place and bolted down, the back of it is about an inch from the condensor, thinking some heat shielding would help keep the temps on the FTRA down.

But the big problems is the LS1 shroud is not fitting under the hood. I removed all excess material off the hood but its hitting the top still. I removed as much plastic from the bottom of the shroud so it would sit flush along the core support...still not enough. Trying to keep the stock LS1 stuff but looking like I might need to do something like merv did to get some more clearance.

Any other suggestions for those using the LS1 shroud? It looks great if nothing else...really helps clean up the engine compartment I think. Just need to get the hood to close!!

Ok, I think I understand how you did it. You basically attached a metal flat bar to the bottom of the lid, then bent the top lip of the radiator like an upside down L to attach it to. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Let the ls1 lid conversion die already, Taner's LT1 runs low 9's with a K&N CAI, i'm pretty sure thats good enough for your 11,12, and 13 second cars.
I gotta admitt, at 1st I was all about this mod, it looks cool. Honestly, now I really can't agree more with this post.

If infact the CAI is so much better due to the ls1's design, then why didn't then infact put an air intake elbow on the LS1's along w/ MAF and a CAI? Same body style no problems there...?

They change stuff for a reason, called trial and error
