Default My girlfriends LT1 will not pass emissions. What to do?

My girlfriends LT1 fails emmisions every year. About a year ago she replaced her cats and her o2 sensors and now it will not pass emissions again. She has never got it to pass the first time around. I am thinking the car needs a tune because it runs really rich but I do not know of anyone in the DFW area that tunes LT1's. How can I get a tune for her car? I know that you can order one over the phone but I do not know where to order one. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Brandon

I would check plugs, wires, vaccum leaks in the intake. Maybe clean out the IAT sensor. Good luck I went though that with mine. Ended up being bad plugs and wires.

The plugs and wires are only three years old so that should not be a problem either. Thanks for the help

if she is running 93 octane put 87 in it for about a week, don't beat on it though, just take it easy, the 87 will put out less emissions.

She only runs 93 octane in her car. The inspection place said her car was really really bad. I do not think putting 87 octane in will help enough because of how bad she failed each test. We can try that but I think the car needs to be tuned because it runs really rich. She only gets 200 miles per tank on the Highway. That is how bad it is.

If it has the factory tune and is running that rich then something else is causing your problem.

What does she fail? High hydrocarbons, CO, Nox?

The reason I think it is because of the tune is she bought the car from an auction without a key and when they got a key for it and started it they found out that it had a blown motor and her father paid some mechanic in the middle of know where to put a new jasper engine in it and now I have learned that it has failed the first time around ever since then. Im learning more about her car each day. LOL, Im not sure what failed but I will get the information and post it as soon as i get it.

Three years on a rich diet might well make the plugs suspect at this time, but it seems likely a serious tune should give it a much better shot at passing. Cleaning the injectors might help.

Best of luck -- Gary

Jaspers are great motors, they dyno test them in the factory and have a 3 year or 75,000 mile warrenty. Does the car run poorly? is the intake elbow ripped, maybe a intake leak after the MAF? A tune would lean it out... MADZ28.com will help you, Ion is a good guy. Does the coolant temp gauge read right? maybe a CTS is screwing with the computer... just my .02

These are the results from inspections. First # is standard, second is her car. enjoy.
at 25 mph:
HC(ppm): 114 165
CO(%): .63 1.58
Nox(ppm): 796 884

at 15 mph:
HC: 117 216
CO: .65 1.74
Nox: 879 1043

Any recommendations. All her readings are way higher than the standards. We need suggestions.

I would put "Guaranteed to Pass" in it. Drive the car for a day or two to let it work itself in. Then when your ready, drive the car hard right before you go to get the cats HOT. If that doesn't pass then have someone take a look at it.

I would love to pay some one but I do not know anyone anymore that will pass it because it has to pass a sniffer. If someone knows someone that will pass it in the DFW area let me know through a PM.

She has to replace stuff all the time. Im trying to make her car pass each year without any problems. She does not race it or modify her car.

She drove her car and got it hot before she went and had it checked.

What does the "Guaranteed to pass" mean.
