Default oil pump O-ring? sucking air ?

hi all,
well I got a email from melling and they state that my oil pressure should be 25# @ idle and 55# cruise
but my gauge reads aprox 10#@ idle 22#@ cruise
my motor has about 8000 miles and was built good so I don't think clearance is the cause I have the canton pan w/canton pickup they said maybe it is sucking AIR
could my gauge be wrong?
how can I check it?
plus how do you suck air?
oh I heard of people have O-rings on there pump, where does exactly the O-ring goes?
my builder put my pickup on the pump so I don't know if I need or have one.
like I said the motor has 8000 miles and runs good but it might be my imagination but the oil looks alittle dirty after 2700miles
but i'm thinkin its my gauge.

thanks all.

Replace the oil pressure gauge. My car was doing the same thing.

You could always buy a mechanical gauge and just disconnect the stocker. There are two locations you can run the mech. gauge, one is above the oil filter and one is on the back of the the intake. Since you have a 1994 there is a good chance that the stock sensor will be above the oil fliter. IIRC the sensor is only like 20 bucks.

mine runs from back of the intake, when I rebuilt my motor I installed a new sensor.
I might just go with a mechanical gauge and run it from the one above the oil filter.

I would hook up a mechanical gauge to verify the problem isn't a faulty gauge. I had a very similar problem to yours and it was the oil pump. I installed the GM white-spring which will increase the pressure in a stock pump. In doing so, I did not bolt the pump back together tight enough and it was sucking air and oil resulting in the same symptoms you have. Changing the oil pump is a pretty easy job if you have an after market k-member. If not, you will have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack the motor up which can be a pain.

I can't remember if my gauge came with an adapter to hook up the mechanical gauge or not but I know you can get an adapter to run the mechanical gauge from the same location as the sending unit.

well my stock gauge is screwed so i put in a mechanical one. I am running the 6psi at 1000 fully warmed up. Stock gauge just reads 0. The stock gauge is off by 10psi in my car and i just replaced the sensor on the back of the intake while i had the intake apart. So when pressure gets down to 10psi the check gauge lite comes on cause the stock gauge reads 0. Scary as hell feeling without the mechanical gauge and I couldn't live with that.
