Default PCM for less tune

So, I've been wanting to get my car tuned, since it's still on the factory tune with headers, no cat, cai, and full aftermarket exhaust. There's really no place around here to get my car tuned, the hypertech programmers are really expensive, and I plan on changing some things around later this year anyways. I was just wondering how well people like their PCM for less tuned PCM's that they got. And also, I'm a little confused by the pricing on their site. Is the total price, after you return your stock PCM and get the core refund, just $50 + shipping costs? If that's all it's going to cost, I think I may just do that until I do more extensive mods and actually have the car dyno tuned. Or is it $175, then another $125 added that is refunded later? http://www.pcmforless.com/index.php?...d=44&Itemid=40

No the cost is 175 and if you want them to send you a replacement before you send yours then it is an additional 125 deposit.

Oh, I was looking at it completely wrong the first time. Then, after I posted the question, I understood. $175 really isn't all that bad of a price though. How well do their tunes work? I'd still be interested in having it as a cheap alternative, for now, if they work pretty well.

You should try a search this has been discussed so many times. They work extremely well for most people with those kind of simple mods.

PCMForLess of NC tunes literally every single one of our projects. Alvin Anderson is one of the best tuners in the nation, and the way they can make these cars run (even by mail order!) is incredible.

I just checked out Madz28 and like the price a little better. I guess I'll just have to do a little more searching and figure out who produces the better results to figure out which one I'll go with.

Back in 2005, I did heads/cam and sent my pcm to MadZ28 for the tune. The following year I went to Speed Inc. for a Dyno tune and according to Jim @ Speed Inc. the initial tune was pretty much dead on. So, I definitely recommend Ion(MadZ28).

I had my car dyno tuned by Bryan Herter from PCMforLess. It's seems ok, I think some idling issues could have been worked out a little better but other than it seems to be working.

That's definately good to hear. I think it's helping me lean more towards MadZ28. Well, that and the fact that it's $50 cheaper. I've also got a question. I've got 3.5" exhaust from my cutout-back, and don't really like it. I'm pretty sure that it's killing power and also doesn't sound the best. If I got the tune with that exhaust, then ended up switching to the SLP Loudmouth 2 exhaust that I plan on doing sometime this summer, would I have to get it retuned for the smaller piping? Or would it be just fine with the tune I already had?

No you didn't. And that car gained alot more than 2rwtq over the mail order.

And to the OP pcmforless is ok if you have no other places around. They had way too much timing in my tune though.

There's only one place I know that does tuning around here. And it's still over an hour away. I also don't want to spend all the money to get it dynotuned, when I'm going to keep modding. I just need something now to take care of the mods that I already have. It's running a little rich since I have headers and no cat on a factory tune. I'm saving the dyno tune for after I cam it.

I'm with Joey. Alvin does an amazing job tuning LTx and LSx cars. He will be doing the tune on my Firebird when it's finally up and running...hopefully soon.

I guess I just have to listen to some more feedback to really decide. I think I'm mostly leaning towards MadZ28 though, since it's $50 cheaper and the guys who have had some input about them, have had very good results. All I really want to know now, is, if I do end up changing from the custom 3.5" catback system that I have no it now, to an SLP Loudmouth system, will I need the PCM to be retuned, or should it be fine without sending it back in to be retuned?

No you will not have to tune your car for swapping catbacks.

+1. For mods in the future, such as h/c,N2O,etc. you can then have your car dyno tuned.
Looking at your sig, I would think about swapping those edelbrock shorties for some long tubes. Just my o2.
