This is the dumbest question to ask. No matter who you ask everyones opinion is differant. It turns into a fight everytime. I can tolerate anything, some ppl cant. I would rather driver around a solid motor mount, monstered cammed car w/ a glide then something like capricemgr or aba383. Its all your own opinion. Iam getting ready to put mean94lt1's cc503 in my 97 for my dd and personally i would rather have a cc306 or a 847 but the deal was there. Find what best suits you and go with it.

Well said, some people that get in or around talk about the "race Car" feel or sound it has. hell I love it, but it's what I like. If I wanted a nice ride I would have just bought a CTS.

crazyhorse, you made a fairly big mistake calling Comp and asking for a recommendation, 99% chance you spoke to someone who has never so much as lashed a rocker much less actually modified anything. They just look at the catalogue and tell you to use one of those cams.
The LPE 211/219 would have been my recommendation, little more lift and solid proven results. Not saying the 501 is bad just that the way you arrived at choosing it was very bad.[/QUOTE]

Wow. Well, the motor most likely won't go in until Wednesday so maybe it's not too late.

Which is what I was originally saying...A DD is in the eyes of the beholder...At 38 years old I want a car that performs like a solid motor mount, monster cammed car with a glide, but with none of the noisey, bad riding crap that usually goes with it...I don't want noise, drone, vibration..I want OD, carpet, A/C, P/S, P/W, P/L...comfortable enough to load up the wife and ride 4 hours to OC, MD without having to stop at a gas station, get to the beach, embarrass a bunch of trailered stuff, and head on home...or head south 1000 miles to visit friends in Daytona, whatever...But what I want is obviously not what everyone wants...I was just throwing out my .02..No fighting, just opinions...

The crane 227 cam has a carb # IIRC, and is definatly a proven cam. I had it in my car a couple years ago and it was a great DD cam.

i was always under the assumption the lt1 intake was more for low end, than top end. its runners are fairly short, much shorter than a tpi, and way shorter than my holley dual plane intake.

nope, short runner for EFI is hi RPM
carb set ups are tall AKA hi-rise manifolds are for hi RPM
the tpi was all about TQ, 245hp 345tq and fell off at 4800

Im running a 288/304 .810 on a 114 LSA in an LS1 and it idles just like stock, I drive it every day and my grandma even drives it to the grocery store. Most people have no idea I even have a cam in the car.

you are seriously running 810 lift on the street as a DD? come on! that is rediculous please say your numbers are wrong. 288/304 is that @.050? that is a very strange value in a camshaft!

Old setup was a 230/236 @.050 with .575 lift Daily driven and 24mpg

currently 234/234 @.050 with .577/.576 lift in my turbo setup, which is also DD, when it runs anyway.

I was joking those specs are for a big block 4500-8500 rpm range race cam...

Hardly daily drivable on a BBC let alone an LS1....

And I don't know my actual cam specs, its an ARE stage 3 car and the previous owner does not have the cam card...
