Couple string pipe questions
Ive got a couple questions. First off im planning on removing my cat and welding in a piece metal. And then on that metal putting on a cutout where the cat should be. Does that sound like a good idea? Ive got a couple quick questions about it. Is their an O2 sensor in the cat? How would I go about untuning that to get rid of the check engine light? Would i just get a piece of aluminum? Do you think a muffler shop would weld it for me? Or my buddies got a welder, would it be easy for us to do ourselves? Sorry that its a lot of questions, Im kind of a noob

Depends upon what state you are in and if emissions is an issue. As stated before most shops won't do it as it is illegal, and the few maybe 5 extra ponies is not worth the hastle or fines. Just an fyi - I had a few friends here in Texas (bout 5 years ago) get pulled over for racing and the DPS (Department of Public Safety) - Highway patrol officers looked under his car and saw no cats. So not only did he get a ticket for racing/reckless driving, but he got his car impounded and fined 2K for emissions violations (not joking). So my suggestion, check your emissions laws in your state first, then if you really want to improve the flow just buy a magnaflow hi-flow cat and take it in and tell the shop your cat is clogged and you'd like to have the new one you have put on. Just my opinion.

just gut it. I did it when i had my old flowmaster catback and stock manifolds and it made the car sound a lot better/louder. 94 models have no sensors behind the cat so you wont get any codes.
Just disconnect the cat back and then take a crow bar and jam in there, crank the car and blow all the **** out and then reconnect and drive.

Well back in the day (before emissions was a PIA here in Houston) I just took measurements and had a local muffler shop fab up a straight pipe with flanges on both ends so I could bolt it in and out. The easiest way is to just gut the cat by taking a metal rod and hammering it thru the center of the cat and getting all that junk out (not hard to do). Also, no sensors after cat on all 93-95 LT-1's as they came with the single cat setup and then they started with the dual cat setup in '96 with the OBDII comps.
Good luck!!
