Default A4 to Saginaw 3 speed

Well the A4 that came in my car is shot. I was going to run a T-56 but i dont have the money to have one built that will take the power i will running next year (around 650-700).

I have the Saginaw 3 speed out of my old 86 monte SS. and the bellhousing which will bolt to my LT1

So my plan is to source a LT1 f-body master cylinder and reservoir. and use a CNC push type slave cylinder(Seen Below) and a stainless braided line.

For those that havnt seen a saginaw 3 spd (shifter mounts on the rear of the tail and linkage goes to the 2 side bungs on the side cover.

Here is how thr linkage is run.

Custom fabwork i will have to do:

1. Fabricate transmission mount
2. Fabricate torque arm mount
3. Fabricate slave cylider bracket

then drive to EFIalchemy in Jacksonville and him tune out all the auto crap

A saggywhore, why not atleast a super T10, m20,m21 or a m22 you are going to kill the whole drivability of the car. I thought you just bought a T56 for your car ? You have a lot of work ahead of you to put that tranny in your car.

Thats way too much work for a crappy old saginaw 3 speed . Those things are good for 2 uses (1) beater dirt track car or (2) junky old chevy pickup truck .

Your problem is not gonna be mounting it up or the clutch linkage, but the fact of where the shifter itself is located will put it back way too far and under your console. I was going to attempt to install an M-21 muncy in my LS car and I didn't feel like having to fab up all the brackets to move the shifter forward and have to shorten all the linkage rods. It is by all means possible but you had best be prepared for a lot of work. I chose to just go with a manual 400 turbo setup for the time being.

Because i have this already and its in perfect working order. and i liked this trans in my monte more than the M22 rockcrusher. IMO there cant be anything worse driveabilty then the auto is giving me (it aint moving)

i was considering the t56 but im going to wait until i can build it like i want to

i have a solution for this also basically will use a secondary shifter (another shift handle will be mounted farther forward on the trans and connected to the rear shifter with another shifter rod (same setup i had in the monte)

I seriously doubt you had a Muncie M22 in your car . It might have been a Muncie 4 spd but not the M22 model .

As for them being a great transmission , if you like using 3 speeds with a big drop between gears and no overdrive , then they are great ...........

I know for a fact that it was a M22. as it had straight cut gears and a 20 degree helix angle.

1. Use a set up for a th350 swap.
2. Get a tunnel mounted torque arm mount.
3. Whatever it takes.
4. You should connect a speedo, not just for the speedometer, for the engine computer to work properly.

Don't tune out the A4 crap.
You HAVE TO do a rewrite entire from an A4 tune to an M6 tune, then delete the few things that the saginaw doesn't have that the T56 did.

once i get to where i can afford the t56 build ill be going to a megasquirt system

i will still have to fab most of this as i dont have the money to buy everything. I have the material and tools to make everything

The angle of the teeth in the m20,m21 are 30 degree helical cut gears. as the M22 is 20 degree straight cut gears causing the whine there famous for thats how they got the name (rockcrushers)

It's not going to run right with an A4 tune and a manual trans. It'll run, but not right.
No offense but you don't seem to care about doing stuff right anyway so just pull the check engine light out. Why pay to have them delete codes.

i was goign to have all the autotrans stuff in tune removed and have the car retuned by EFI alchemy.

ill be doing it right but im not going to pay 200-300 dollar for trans mounts and torque arm mounts when i can build the same thing for 60 bucks in materials and my time

About the tune. Heres a previous post. A4 vs M6 All the green things are differences.
Some are not even defined, as in you do a rewrite, some pins in the engine computer shut off, some turn on, they do different things.

No, there are no changes between the two at all. LOL.
You can do it right, or do it half-assed. I prefer right.
And if you don't know what all this is, these are HP Tuners screen shots. It's comparing two stock bin files. A 2001 TA M6 and a 2001 Firebird A4.
The green highlights are differences.
Does it look like just the turning off A4 codes to you now?

These are a few reasons why.

i get it now basically ill get a t56 tune minus the electromic controls for the trans.

and i may use this crossmember as it will save time and it is both the torque arm and trans crossmember in one http://www.bmrfabrication.com/misc/TCC013.jpg for 250
