See my post, should be #11.

You can use ATF (DexonIII or whatever Dexron that is out there now), Mobile 1 ATF, and I use Pennzoil Synchromesh which is the same as GM Syncromesh which is avalible at auto parts stores.

so you guys run it is there a shift diffrence what i mean like smoother shifts in and outta gears. When i shift into first it wont go sometimes then i gotta rock it back and forth then get it in gear or it has trouble sometimes going into gears.

If I remember right there was a issue with Royal Purple's synthetic ATF eating blocker rings out in the T56. I think it was Six Speed INC that had said something like that, maybe someone else can chime in on this.

Yup, many posts and a buddy who got a GTO trans from them. No RP due to eating up the blocker rings and they would not warrentee if you used it.

What I can tell you is in CT we can get REAL cold and REAL hot. When the fluid is at or below freezing the trans has a slight grind (i can feel it resisting) on the 2-3 shift before the tick master cyl. I put in the Synchromesh and it goes away and when the trans is up to temp, it shifts near redline like it should. Like it was ment to be shifted in this manner and its like butter.

Just to stir the pot... I just switched from Pennzoil Syncromesh to Castrol Dex III yesterday. Havent driven it yet...and the Pennzoil looked super clean still. But Im just trying to different things to see how it reacts.

The Syncro seemed thicker. Even the slightly older and still warm fluid that I took out. Im wondering if its heavy enough to slow things down JUST enough to make shifting notchy. I dont have shifting problems really....just notchy.

I havent had Dex in the trans since I first did the swap...and that was with cruddy Spec clutch and old hydraulics. So this will be a true difference test for me.

Go to my link at the top of the page and then click the links on the Pennzoil data, it did show Synchromesh to be heavier in weight and viscosity. The their ATF.

Regarding this, I got my beefed up MN12 trans from Six Speeds Inc while my brother rebuilt his on his own with OEM parts. He put Royal Purple in his and I didn't specifically because they told me not to. Long story short, I still lost a blocker ring after not so many miles - most likely due to a disengagement issue - and my brother's has been running strong with him beating the hell out of it power shifting on the street and at the track for almost 20,000 miles. He's also shifts faster than anyone I've ever seen in real life or in a video and his car makes awesome power for the mods.

There is now Royal Purple in my newly rebuilt transmission (rebuilt by my brother and myself).
