Default I only have 4th Gear??? HELP!

OK today as i was merging onto the highway i ran it through 1-4th... got up to about 130, and hit the clutch and went to throw it into nuetral, but it wouldnt budge. Clutch in wont budge, clutch out wont budge. So i SLAM it into nuetral finaly. Problem solved? NOPE! I go to put it into 6th and continue on my way, and the shifter wont even move. The only gear that the shifter will even get into is 4th. and it scratches on the first try and then pops right in second try. the shifter will not move to ne other gear. Does this mean i need a new transmisison? or is it possibly the shifter? im only 20 and i owe 4k on the car and really dont want to get even more upside down on a transmission. the car only has 50k miles on it. what do you guys think? im taking it to the dealership in the morning. what do you guys think i am looking at?

To be honest that doesn't sound good. I had a similar situation with a T56 and it ended up being the keys on the 5th/6th gear syncro hub slider.

It doesn't necessarily mean a whole new transmission but perhaps a rebuild.
That's strange to have issues like that at only 50K miles.

Hopefully I'm wrong and it's just the pilot bearing or something simple.

Either way the transmission has to be dropped.

I would consider another shop other than the dealer.

You have one of the best tranny shops in the country near you...
Jason at Texas Drivetrain Performance... He is a sponsor here.
I've dealt with him quite a bit and he is top notch.

I'm not sure about the cost because I've been doing my own.
With parts and labor if it needs a rebuild ... maybe $1500.00 to $2000.00 ???
If you went to the dealer there is no telling what it would cost.

You will most likely need a new clutch kit and slave cylinder.
I'm figuring that in the price.

Here is his contact information.

just that Jason at TDP is close to you. In my opinion, he is one of the best.

No problem, I hope it all worksout for you.

If you decide to call Jason, just tell him Troy with the MN12 from
California sent you. I bought quite a few parts from him... He'll remember.

He also has his own clutchline called Diamond Clutches ( good clutches ).

He should be able to hook you up.

Hopefully there is no major damage with gears, sliders, forks or hubs.
Those are the parts that add up in cost.
It's hard to tell sometimes until you open the trans up.
Not trying to think the worst.

I still have my spare 2000 T56 with 77K and it looks like brand new internally.
Like I said it's unusual to have failures at 50K. People do but it's not common.
I just can't imagine yours being extremely damaged internally.

I believe Jason will be as fair as possible. Once you talk to him you will get that sense.
Plus I have never heard anything bad about him. He's a stand up guy.

What I can tell you is not to drive the car as that will make it worse.

That's fantastic news!
I realize nobody wants to spend $1650 on such short notice.
But that is a very reasonable deal for what your getting.
Plus I know it will be done right.
I'm very happy it all turned out well for you.

After you pick up your car and drive a bit, I would be interested to know how it's shifts and clutches.

ok so i got her back today!!! yay!!! she clutches amazingly different. No more soft spongee feeling. It is springy like a c6 corvette. The only thing i am wondering before i call him back tomorrow is, when i start out in first, it shakes a little/vibrates. but if i give it abou 1500rpms, it doesnt shake. With the stock clutch i was able to pretty much let it out or give it little gas like 1000rpms. Now, it seems like i have to give it alot. Is this because its a stage2 performance clutch? Or is it because it needs to be broken in?? Thx Guys!

Chatter is pretty normal for a performance or semi-performance clutch.

It will usually soften up after while.

It won't hurt anything.
