What did you pay for your clutch replacement?
So I have new tires going on tommorow and was out tonight burning up the old ones. I started to notice that the clutch was possibly slipping. I stood on the breaks and got the tires smoking good and when I went to take off it kinda seemed like the tires were not spinning and perhaps the clutch was. First, is there any good way to test to see if your clutch needs replacing without taking it apart? Second, as the thread states, what did you pay to have a shop replace your clutch? I have never replaced a clutch before and would definitely try it myself over the winter if it isn't all too difficult. I figure with a good repair manual and this website there isn't much that can't be done on your own. Thanks guys.

The clutch might of just been hot. Let it cool off and go out for a drive. Start off easy and put more and more throttle till you notice slip if any at all.
Thats all I can think of. I dunno how much clutchs cost nor the install cost. Sorry. Hope this helps.

A good way is to put some heat into the clutch, drive it around, do some stop and go drving, and if clutch is real bad, do this....from a stop light, take off real slow, and then shift from 1st to like 4th or 5th gear, and then floor it. Sometimes, when clutch is under a big load like that (trying to accelerate 3600LBS in a high gear going so slow) the cluthc can slip. That is another way to try and check it.
You can also do it at speed....like 40-50 MPH, in high hear, and floor it real hard, and teh clutch can slip under load like that as well.

Doing the job yourself is always good exp. Having an extra person exp in this job is great and having access to a lift is better, also having air tools is a big help.
I never paid a shop $$$ to do this job but I got a buddy who had all the tools and access to his work lift on a saturday do the job for me. I helped of course. In the end I flipped him $100.00 for his trouble which in my opinion was worth every penny.
I dont know the milage, condition, or year of your clutch master and slave cyl as well as pilot bearing. I would recommend removing/replacing all. So it is all fresh and you wont have to redo the job twice.
Tick Perf. A sponsor makes a Master cyl that has been proven to be better then stock and RAM adj units. As for clutch, do a search, I use Textralia and I have had awesome success, but again pick one that you feel comfortible with and are happy with, also if it fits your budget.
