Default My MN12 T56 Carnage and Happy Ending

I just wanted to post some pictures with the experience I had on my T56 MN12 build. This was about 6 months and about 4000 miles ago. I have since moved on to Cam/Heads/Fuel and more.

I like the hang out mainly in the Manual Tranny Section because I developed an affection for the learning curve and experience I had building my tranny. Plus I think I caught the T56 tranny bug. I also made some friends and aquaintences along the way.

I initially bought this wrecked MN12 T56 out of a wrecked 2004 GTO. I paid $500. I bought it from one of our vendors here on LS1Tech. In the end I could've almost bought a brand new tranny for what all the parts ended up costing me. ( partly my fault ). I can be very stubborn so I became obsessed with finishing it.

It would have been easier if this was a regular T56 because I had no information on the MN12 transmission at the begining, later I found out that I could use a Vette diagram and apply it to F-body MN12 T56. Now I don't need a diagram. lol

Also sorry about the finished product pictures not being there but I can't find them.

I thought the same thing, I never did see the car.

Sometimes I wonder if the transmission fell off a self or something.

No way. It was hit hard probably from the side near the rear end. Falling from a shelf might crack the case but it wouldn't snap the mainshaft like that.

I wish I could have seen the car, hopefully the driver's involved made it through ok. Probably one less GTO on the road.

That mainshaft alone ended up costing me $200.

MN12 rocks from a dig! Just finished rebuilding mine and waiting for the 19th for a rental at Atco. Nice cold weather for some new personal bests, I'm hoping.

With all the stop and go traffic in my area sometimes, I'm very happy with my MN12 too.

Have fun and be safe, The weather's been cool here to, makes me want to take a little drive tonight.

Now I'm wondering what rearend you're running.

I just changed out all my drivetrain fluids, so I don't know who's happier the car or me.

I might get a 12 bolt someday.

There's a Harbor Freight a few miles from me.

I highly recommend not getting a Moser 12-bolt. They whine and clunk like crazy, and it just keeps getting worse the more you launch the car. My brother and I both have them and have the same issues. Look into a Dana 60 or a 9 Inch.

Yeah, we have a HF about 15 minutes from my house. That place is a goldmine of cheap stuff that you want but don't want to spend a ton of money on.

X2 on the 9"..I've read quite a few complaints about the 12 Bolt and a M6 car.

I'm not much of as drag racer, I just want something stronger than the awesome mighty 7 1/2" 10 bolt.

What about the strange 12 bolt ?
