Do you already have a T56 in your vehicle? Are you putting a LS1 into a different vehicle? The reason I was asking is that if you have a T56 currently or trying to aquire a trans that would fit behind the LS1, it would be cheaper to just repair the issues with the trans or buy a T56 to fit behind the LS1. Trying to find a 5 speed and modify it to fit your application would be more of a headache and cost more on the long run IMHO.

LS1 uses same bellhousing pattern as SBC, so I would think any third gen 5 speed should do the trick. As long as you're real easy on it - stock 225 horse 305's could damage that trans. Sounds like your just trying to get this thing rolling.

You just have to figure out which clutch to use.

If you already have a T56, spend the cash and get it fixed.

Then try the BW T5. A used unit goes for about $500.

I have a good used T5 from a 99 Camaro V6 I could ship into Canada. You will still need a bellhousing for it though. PM me if you are interested in it.

you could use the nv3500 from the trucks...

would have to do something crazy with the shifter though...
