Question problem with friends new clutch install..

01 Trans Am LS1
Replaced stock clutch, flywheel, and slave
New clutch is the ZOOM kevlar
Slave was bought from oreilleys..

Pumped out the old clutch fluid.. Did the bleeding process with one guy in the car and one guy under it..

Started the car in the air and pressed the clutch pedal down while trying to shift.... wouldn't shift.. Pedal is soft as well... Any info? They're thinkin of returning the slave and goin' with oem..

Our ideas are either bad slave, still air in the system or master....

I have the same clutch, slave, and new master in my ss. Turned out good............

If the pedal is soft it sounds like air still in the system. Maybe theres a leak somewhere and air is getting in. How many miles on the master cyclinder? I would have replaced that at the same time if it has more than 20 or 30 k on it.

I just finished my new clutch yesterday and had the same problem. It was air in the line. Go to the auto parts store and rent a vacuum bleeder. It took about 20 minutes to get the air out and everything works great now.

if everything was installed correctly, take your time and get all the air out. mityvac helps. a tick master helps out even more

you just need to take the t56 out and the shim mounts right behind the slave. slave is inside the bellhousing

Seems like there are only 1 billion posts on this. I can't see why you'd need a shim unless the manufacturer recommends it. If you would've went with a GM slave it would've come bled. You can usually stick it in there, bleed it a few times through the bleeder and its fine. The aftermarket one you bought will probably need to be bled with a mitivac.

Stick the mitivac on the reservoir cap and pull a vacuum to like 15 in. Pump the pedal a few times slowly and recheck the fluid. Should fix it real quick.
