new slave with blown seal
Hey guys, I got a l33 motor (5.3l) with a t-56 from a cts-v that's been converted to run the f body tailshaft and housing all stuffed into a nissan silvia. My problem is that when I went to bleed the system, it leaked almost immediatly. Upon pulling the drivetrain and cracking the trans loose, I found the slave is leaking from the center of the slave. I'm thinking the seal is blown. Should I have installed a shim of sorts, or do I just have a faulty slave? Thanks in advance.

The CTS-V bell housing sits back pretty far because the CTS-V came from the factory with a dual mass flywheel. If you aren't running a dual mass flywheel with an F-body slave, that is your problem. You need about a 1" spacer under the slave to run the short slave with a single mass flywheel. There are lots of threads on here about how to measure for proper clearance. I would highly suggest you measure everything following one of those threads.
What flywheel/clutch are you running and what slave are you using?

A 1" spacer? I'm not doubting it but man thats a huge shim. He mentioned in the above post that it was a stock GM slave.
Here is a post to the OP that should help you measure to see what size shim you should need. This is a great write-up and im not sure if it is stickied or not, but it should be.

It's an LS7 clutch, and to be honest, I'm not sure if it's an F body bellhousing or a cts-v bellhousing. As for the link for measuring for a spacer, I'll try that out toninght. Thanks guys.

Yeah you can shim any slave. Measuring is the first thing to take care of though. Also, its worth mentioning the LS7 slave has a different connection than an F-body. The V and the LS7 both use a black plastic QD and the F-body is the gold aluminum type.
Stock CTS-V fitting (same for LS7)
Stock CTS-V slave next to an F-body slave
LS7 slave length on top. Stock CTS-V on bottom. You can see the LS7 has about an extra inch of aluminum at the base. Also, not how much of the input shaft is visible between the two.

So I did some measuring and I'm about an inch out. Looks like I'm either going to need a 0.875" thick spacer or go with the cts-v slave. At this point, I think I'll just get a spacer made up.
