ls7 clutch rating??
What is the max holding power of the LS7 clutch in our cars (98 TA with LS6)? I'm looking at over 480rwhp with my upcoming h/c set up and will be needing a new clutch ASAP.
Would I be better off getting a LS7 clutch kit with Ls7 flywheel,PP, and disc? Or should I go with an aftermarket street performance PP and disc found at cl*tch.n3t ?
I'm building the car for mild autocross racing and fun street driving.
Any tips on where I can buy any of the goodies would be great too!!! Thanks guys

i think the majority of the problems with clutches going out are part of the install and break-in.. so if its all done correctly i think you might get results like this guy

being in a heavier car, id say you are pushing the limits of the LS7. id look at monster, yeah a stage 2 or 3 would be more expensive, but the question of "will it hold?" wouldnt really be an issue.
HOWEVER, since you just mention autocross and messing around on the street, the whole launching thing is not as big of a deal. so if thats the case, the LS7 would to me still be a viable option if i really needed to save money. When i did my M6 swap, i really just wanted to do it once, and have the ability to launch a car a couple times if need be, so i did monster stage 2. not really as tough as the 3, but not as much of an on/off clutch either.

youve got to remember what that Z06 weighs though...

+1!
I'm bringing my SS down to New Era in the next upcoming weeks for a LS7 clutch/flywheel to be installed.
Seems like a great option for the price.. Especially since I'm basically stockish with just bolt-ons. If I was making 500rwhp though, I wouldnt even consider it if I was planning on driving it hard on the streets and track. There are better options out there that arent that much more.

Personally, I wouldn't go with the LS7 clutch. Having owned two c6 Z06's thus far I can say with 110% conviction that the LS7 clutch can barely handle ANY kind of performance driving in a STOCK z06 let alone a H/C z06. When she glazes you'll be easily down a car and change. If you have ANY inclinations of taking the car to the strip for a few "fun" runs, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME ON THE LS7 clutch... she will only disappoint you. All it takes is a half of second of holding the clutch out or slipping it and she is hot, fussy and you will be slower, without exceptions.
Now, in a 4th gen, the extra weight is only going to **** it off more.
So, my recommendations for a H/C ls1 is go with an aftermarket clutch like the monster 3/4 or even a RPS twin lite if you can afford that clutch.
Trust me on this one, the LS7 clutch was NOT designed for diehard racers or track junkies... the unfortunate truth is that the corvette is mostly bought by folks well into their 40-50's and even higher than that and they only drive the car on the weekends. For get all the marketing nonsense that was used to sell the car.. when it comes to the clutch, it is really the weakest link. Replace the stock clutch in a z06 and she'll be a consistent LOW-LOW 11's at a 127-129mph car ALL DAY but then you'll be called out for not being stock. BS!

its 100% dumb to hot lap a car! I took maybe 10-15 mins between runs. If i had the baddest clutch in the world i would still do that. 1.68 60ft in a 3500lbs car with 40k+ miles and no chatter and easy pedal. if its a everyday driver like mine its the best clutch out for under 500hp cars
