Default T56 in 70 Camaro

I'm looking to swap in a LS setup and T56. I've come accross a few T56 but most have been out of the CTS-V. Is there any advantages or disadvantages, issues with install, or hydraulics needed to finish it off vs. one out of a Camaro?

I'm not looking to get real complicated.

Thanks!

I put one in a 1981 Trans Am. The things that made life easy on this swap were:
  • a master cylinder mounting plate from Detroit Speed (35-40 bucks)
  • a new adjustable master cylinder
  • a remote bleeder hose for the slave (also new)
  • 2nd Gen F-Body Clutch & brake pedals from Classic Industries (just over 100 bucks, if I remember right)
  • a TransDapt T56 conversion trans cross member

other nice-to-haves:
  • custom aluminum drive shaft
  • buying a clutch from one of the MFGs represented here (I got a Spec 2+) - Seriously, having that deep level of tech support is incredible. Jeremy has been a life saver.

The trans I went with came from a 1998 Camaro. It fit well, but I did have to beat on the tunnel a bit and do some cutting. But then, you'll have to do this with any T56, I think.

Thanks for the info. Is there any inference with the CTS-V T56 or will it matter going in to a second gen Camaro?

3" drop. I'll see if I can get pictures for you.

I don't think so, but I'd check with one of the rebuild guys here at LS1. There might be something in a sticky note as well.

skip getting a CTS-V T56. The shifter setup is weird as is the tailhousing/driveshaft flange on the output shaft.

Get an Fbody one from '98-02.... or simply buy a new Magnum T56.

I just finished one in my 79 T/A and didnt require any tunnel beating.... and the transdapt xmember didnt clear my exhaust, so I went with a G-force... bolted in to the factory holes... so if anybody wants a transdapt 3" drop I have one.... sell cheap too..

93-97 T56s from camaros and trans ams wont work with a LS motor unless you have it converted which requires the change of the input shaft (longer), mid plate, and bellhousing. 98-02 is a LS specific trans.

I did the swap on my 83 Z28 with a SBC the only real difference between any other swap is you'll need a swap flywheel and a starter for that 153 tooth flywheel, and when it comes to the issue of the speedo a few people make conversions to the extension housings to work a cable drive, thats what I did, others use a dakota digital box
