Default shift rail assembly pic needed

I'm in the middle of my first t56 rebuild an am trying to get the shift rail assembly together correctly. I put the case on and the 5/6 shaft is too low for the fork and the torx guide bolt for that shaft will not go in all the way. That and i cant shift into 5/6 and it wont even move in the 1/2 slot.

Does anyone have a good picture of the assembly? Yes, i did take one before i took it apart but my phone got broken as luck would have it.

put the 1/2 3/4 and main shaft assemble in the front plate, then the cluster gear, then the 5/6/reverse fork assembly and sing it onto the shift rail making sure the shift rail assembly and 1-4 forks are in the neutral position. then next time take plenty of pics. are you doing this with the front plate sitting on a table with the input shaft through, or on its side?

There was a step my step method to putting on the case and getting the pins in. It was methodical and worked well. Try searching for it. It was posted by Mike. Maybe he'll chime in here.

Ok thanks guys i had it right. This was the best advice for getting the pesky torx in.

"When you slide the case on tighten the 5-6 shift rail with the torx bolt first, then lift up the 5-6 shift rail slightly to get the 1-2 3-4 shift rail bolt in if it isn't already lined up straight."

Question: Does it really matter which way the syncho assembly goes on? I know the lines on the sleeves are supposed to point down but is that because the sleeves are different or the part that splines onto the shaft is? In other words if i pressed the sucker on backwards can i just flip the sleeve?

I read that the synchros are symmetrical, so it doe not matter which way they go on. And some people's point in different directions from the factory. My 1-2 and 3-4 grooves were towards the front of the trans, and 5-6 groove was pointed to the rear. I put them back in the same way but when flipped the reverse synchro so it had a fresh side.

I would search a little more on here before first however.

The line thing applies to transmissions before the T56's time.

It's not required to orient the lines on the sliders forward or back in the transmission.

That applied to earlier stuff with more antiquated machining processes.

its true that both the lines were not facing down on the original sliders. So i took a caliper to both sides, new and old ones, and they are identical.

Soooooo now its all back together and not going into 1/2, but I pretty sure its not a linkage problem. check out my post "new synchro problem"
