I am a DIEHARD Stick for 27 yrs & my '72 SS Camaro is a LS1 6 speed now. After ALOT of broken parts over the years I am considering a switch to an A4 with a GOOD Converter .
I have searched but not found any solid info yet on the 2 trans at the track with the same mtr setup ...no other changes. My car now is H/C all bolt ons ,Pat G cam ,Fast 92/92, 460rwh/420rwtq with more to come in the future ,I leave at 7k & shift at 6800rpm.Ye this comes after I DESTROYED MY Richmond 4:56's at the track Thur. nt.
In addition I am looking at adding a 100-150 shot. Thanks for any input .

the auto with a 3600 or so converter will be faster than the m6 at the track but will trap a little lower but it will turn in the better e.t every time theres no outshifting a computer and the fact that the auto down have a slightly steeper 1st gear than the m6 making the launch with a stall badass.

IMO, with a good driver that can get the car off the line, M6 will be faster. Do you plan on turning your car into a drag car? If you don't want a drag car, leave it M6. Stalled auto is boring to drive and only fun from a dig. I'm in the process of an A4 to M6 swap right now.

An A4 is definitely quicker at the track I dropped about 7tenths switching to a built 4l60 with a 3800 stall and the motor set up was exactly the same. The M6 is a lot more funner and easier to put up with on the street though. I don't like how a big stall acts in stop and go traffic

If you have a built rear end and slicks, you could get those autos off the line cuz you have all the way to the rev limiter as a launch speed. I gained 2 tenths and 4mph from m6 swap but the auto was fried like most of them are and I am one bad as 6 speed driver. It killed my 60' cuz I'm still on stock tires and rear end but the fun to drive factor made up for it being slower out of the hole

Ye rearend was built with about 70 passes on it leavin at 7 grand ,I will freshin it up & keep bangin my own !If the cars are close to same power nobody has ever gained any ground from my shifting. The fact remains a stick is HARD on parts when u stick it at the track but they sure are alot of fun !
