Exclamation HELP! T56 mainshaft too long for LS7? Whats wrong here

I have bought D&D LSX specified viper case T56 and i has LSX bellhousing. Now i have finally got my engine 2012 LS7.

The broplem is at the main shaft bottoms against pilot bearing in the crankshaft end about 10 mm - 3/8" too soon. Bell housing has about 10 mm gap and there is now way i could install the transmission all the way.

What is wrong here? Is it possible to tap pilot bearing about 10 mm deeper? Or do i need adapter between bellhousing and the engine?

Post a pic of the pilot bearing. It sounds like you have the large diameter pilot bearing and you need the smaller diameter pilot bushing that sits deeper into the crank.

X2 on the pilot bearing. I had this issue with mating a 1999 F-body T56 to a LS3 crate engine. I had to switch to the LS1 style bearing so it would fit properly. I think
85MikeTPI is right. Need a pilot bearing to match your input shaft.

Like everyone else said, you have the wrong style pilot bearing in the crank. We just ran into this on our 434 LS2 69 Camaro.

You can also trim some off the tip of the input shaft if needed. I ran into this a few months ago as well.

Hello guys,

Thank you so much for help so far

Could it really be just the pilot bearing? If so is there smaller bore behind this pilot bearing where smaller one could be fitted?

Here the pic

Yup, it's that easy. Pull, the large bearing and there's a smaller step in the crank for a pilot bushing that'll give you another 1/2"

Yea deffinately the wrong pilot bearing, the ls1 bearing is tapered to allow the input shaft to recess in further.I also recomend you get a brass pilot bushing from a ls1 availible from advance auto or whatever big chain autoparts store is local to you it is better for higher horsepower applications and less resistant to wear.

I was told by multiple people it's less prone to failure that the roller bearing assembly and better for higher horsepower applications
