Default SPEC S3 and flywheel install questions...

If I'm retaining the factory slave and hydraulics, will I need to bleed my slave cylinder, or will I just be able to R+R the clutch and flywheel? Also, my S3 did not come with any "shims" like some others do, am I just supposed to reuse the factory "shim"? Lastly, what is the green gasket looking thing (~3-4" in dia with a ~1" hole in the middle) that came with my clutch? Thanks, sorry for all the stupid questions, but I've never installed a clutch before. Thanks, Shawn

The green gasket looking thing is the shim. It needs to be bolted between the slave and tranny. You will definitely have to bleed the system after the install. It's easy though.

Keep in mind fellas, that when upgrading the old hydraulics, you only need to update the slave (from what my EXTENSIVE research has shown.)

So, save yourself some money if you can.

If you know otherwise, let me know...

I will also be running a SPEC 3 with stock hydraulics and flywheel. Is this ok or not? What do you have to upgrade int he hydraulics? Also, how do you bleed it?

u have to upgrade the slave. when i bled mine i let the slave hang, opened the bleeder and let gravity do its thing. after that i used the mityvac to get they **** out of the lines and everything. put new fluid in and left bleeder open. pumped up the pedal, made sure it was full when it was depressed friend opened the bleeder and then shut it. filled it and pumped the pedal again. works like a champ now. id u have 2001+ car then dont need the slave

Hey, I am installing a used spec 3 also and I dont have the green shim...will I need it? I'm also upgrading the slave. Also, what do you guys use to hold the flywheel when torquing the bolts down?
Thanks

use your hands. thats all i did. well actually in some holes on the flywheel u can stick like a screw driver in there when your torquing it. thta works too. the green shim is there to disengauge the clutch faster. if i were u i would get it i mean spec says to use it.
