why is my clutch fluid dark
What's going on my fellow GM guys , as the topic says above clutch fluid is dark already . Last weekend I installed a ram twin disk , tick adjustable master and new slave cylinder . The car only has 100 miles on it since everything was installed . Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jose

I am not sure if the law was changed, but this fluid was illegal to sell in the USA and has been taken off the market due to its blue color. All of it was recalled last month and supposedly finding it is pretty hard these days.

Why is DOT 5 not recommended? Or what about some of the import brake fluids? Has anyone done any testing? I am getting ready to flush the old stuff out of my car this week and don't want to have to do it again this year.

It depends on the DOT5 brand you get. Most DOT5 fluid is silicone based and wrecks seals and doesn't work in ABS cars. Our hydraulics use similar seals. I used to use Motul DOT5.1 as it was not silicone and compatible with DOT3 and 4.
DOT3 should be good in most scenarios, but if you have headers, wrap up the line and use dot4.

Flush and refill the hydraulics and go from there. I am a big fan of the Motul RBF-600 fluid. This should take care of your fluid issues and allow for a more consistent pedal. Let me know if you need anything else.

I believe that only pertained to Florida. One can get the same exact fluid without the blue hue, though. The reason why one would run the blue is because the different colors made it easier to tell the brake system was bled since most autox/road racing people bleed their system each outing.

Not 100% sure that is true as I have seen DOT 5 fluid that is purple in color, but maybe it is exempt due to it being silicon?

I was told it was a Federal DOT issue...not just Florida. It was only related to the blue color as no fluid brake in the USA is allowed to be sold without being amber in color.
