Default Return spring

Do the clutch pedals on fourth gens have a return spring? Some one told me that the hydraulics return the pedal and there is no need of a spring. Just wanted to check my facts out because I dont believe him. Were retro fitting a t56 into my 55 Chevy.

I believe 93-97 pedals do not have a spring but 98-02 do. I don't think there is much difference in them.

the 98-02 pedals do have a small spring at the top of the pedals. Not sure if it is a return spring or not.

Yes, fourth gens came with a clutch pedal return spring. It is notorious for failing and GM also issued a TSB for the problem. (Although the TSB just said to buy a new one and put it in.)

IMO - It is totally needed with a stock master cylinder. Without it, the pedal is floppy. If you upgrade to an aftermarket master cylinder, like a Tick, you do not need the spring and the installation instructions specifically tell you to leave it out.

If you are converting another vehicle, this would be a great time to upgrade that MC.

x2^^

If it's a stock master keep the return spring.
If it's a tick you can take it off. It has enough return that you don't need it.
The ram adjustable is the same as stock so you would need to leave it on with this one.

Thanks again for the input everyone. I scored a Tick master, newer slave, and remote bleeder used from a guy on facebook. Now I just need to email tick and see how much throw the master needs so I can set everything up.
