Default 3rd gear whine at low rpms

Took a buddy for a ride and did two long pulls through 3rd and 4th gear. I am getting a whine now in 3rd but only if I am barely touching the accelerator pedal. If I take my foot off of it the sound goes away and if I push it down just a little further it goes away. You can almost feel the whine in the stick. I know higher HP manual cars make noises but just want to be sure.

Set up is a 408 with a BW S476 that put down 850 at the wheels. The transmission was built by CMS to handle lots of power.

Anyone have any opinions? I'm kind of afraid to get into the throttle right now.

It's a possibility you could have pushed the oil to the back of the trans far enough to uncover the input/cluster mesh, and for long enough during those pulls to heat damage them from lack of lubrication. If you get the whine in 3rd and not 4th, that would be my guess. You're well north of the power level where a pump is a good investment IMO.

Ok. Thank you for your input. I'll do some research on the pump situation.

Is the situation at the point where I have damaged it and need it rebuilt now or will a pump keep it from doing anymore damage? I can deal with the slight whine.

No way to know if it's hurt or to what extent without tearing it down and inspecting. A pump is a must for you IMO, and will keep from overheating the input/cluster further. All I can tell you is if/when that mesh eats itself, it gets real ugly real fast with the current prices for t56 parts....

Ok. Thank you so much for the info. I'll definitely look at getting a pump on it before anymore pulls.
