Default what fuild to put in tranny?

I just got a D&D Performance tranny and the recommended putting Dextron 3, which is a auto tranny fluid. The guy at OReilly's suggested something else. what is everybody using?

Lightbulb

Out of all the fluid I've tried, the original GM ATF seems to work the best

Mobil 1 and Redline was just too slick for the Synchros

It shifted very smooth when cold, but as soon as it heated up and I tried to grab grab the gears, I would get grindage

Honda Z-1 worked fine

Less notchy than the GM ATF during cold starts, but not as smooth when fully heated....

With the GM Fluid, it was always notchy during cold starts, but got smoother with heat, which I don't really mind since I alway baby my car until it completely up to operating temperature.....

Do you just get the GM ATF at the parts counter? Is there different kinds of GM ATF? Do you have a part number? Thanks!

Any brand of non-synthetic Dexron III ATF works great and is what's specified. I usually use Valvoline

There will be no concensus on this question, ever I don't think.

You can check out this link if you have a 98-00 F-body T-56: Ending the speculation: Blocker rings, who's had them fail?.

For 01 and up F-body T-56's, these had carbon-type blocker rings...so the thread I linked to above really doesn't apply (although the fluids listed in there would still all be options).

Of all the fluids, stay away from Royal Purple's Max ATF, as the 2 instances I heard of people running it, bad things ended up happening - both people leaned towards the Royal Purple pretty strongly as being the problem. I believe someone affiliated with Royal Purple said they recommend their Synchromax, which hasn't posted any bad results.

You can search by my username, as of late, I've tried to participate in the T-56 fluid discussions...

Good Luck!!!
