Default Looking for help picking a clutch,Monster,Diamond,McLeod.. EDIT:SLIGHT BUILD CHANGE

Looking to upgrade my clutch over the winter months, car is gonna get the typical bolt ons over the winter, but my end goal over the next few years is to have a HCI with a 150-200 hit of nitrous and ETs mid to low 10s . The main reason i want a clutch now is to clean up the high RPM shifts and to handle some drag strip abuse. I drive the car 5000 miles or so in the summer months and will see 30-40 passes a year. I want a clutch that has decent street manners, im not too afraid of a firmer pedal, and something thats gonna last 25k miles or more.

Ive talked to a few 11 sec stock internal guys and have email Jason at Diamond who recommended his stage 2, which i feel may come up short when i get a nitrous kit and Steve from monster who suggested his LT1-S twin disk with a steel flywheel which is getting to the top of my $1000 budget.

The Mcleod RXT blows my budget and not sure about its street manners and the RST isnt recommended for spray, looking for input from some of you guys as to what works, what dosnt and other things i should considersuch as steel or alum flywheel etc

I already have a tick master and a hurst billet shifter which have help the high rpm shifts alot

EDIT: Ive decided to not spray this car and to keep it more daily/street machine but still 30-40 passes a year, id like to see low 11s or just dip into the 10s with HCI, 450-500rwhp and minor weight reduction(just all the unnecessary stuff emissions etc)

Monster S2 and S3, Diamond S2 and McLeod Super Street Pro fit the budget and application.

Thank You for your interest in McLeod Racing.

The RXT would be the best choice based on your application.

The pedal feel and clutch modulation is comparable to the factory clutch.

If you want to save money, you can use a OEM LS1/LS6 flat style flywheel.

However with a 200 shot of nitrous and a sticky tire I would highly recommend using a billet steel flywheel with SFI rating.

The clutch part number you would need is part number 6932-07.

The flywheel you need is part number 460530.

Give me a call at 714 630-2764 and I'll put you in touch with one of our dealers that has a sale going on till Monday 10/3/16.

I hope to hear from you.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for your reply, im not looking to pull the trigger right away as i need to save a few bucks up but your raise a good point of reusing my stock flywheel for now and i can upgrade to the Billet flywheel when i start playing with nitrous.

What is the weight of your steel flywheel and what its your expected milage out of the RXT clutch.

I think the Monster Stage 3 would fit your needs. It will handle 700rwhp/700rwtq and would be more in line with your budget. I run that clutch setup with the Tick master, and it's been nothing but good to me.

It was one of the clutches i was considering before talking with Steve at Monster, aswell another member who has it, said he wouldnt buy it again. As for street manners how do you like it and what kinda of miles have your put on it so far. It fits my budget thats for sure, what flywheel do you have.

I've put probably 3,000 miles on it. It does take a little getting used to, but it's a puck style clutch, so that's to be expected. The engagement is toward the top of the release of the clutch pedal, which is different from stock. I made some adjustments to the pedal height, and while that helped, the engagement is still toward the top of the release. Just the other day, I was in bad stop and go traffic for at least 45 minutes, and it never hiccupped on me. Driving any manual car in that kind of traffic isn't fun. I have not been to the track with the setup. My car makes 420rwhp/440rwtq. When I purchased it, I wanted something that fit my budget, but I also wanted something that could take additional power. My plan is to go turbo over the winter, and my goal is to make around 700 to the tire.

Have you used any other clutches? Do your drag race with it? What flywheel and master cylinder are you using.

I think I could probably live with that, might help me slip the clutch faster off the line.

Got ya, I was going to recommend a RPS clutch but it's out of your price range by a lot.

Could this be the reason my Monster Stage 3 clutch engagement is narrower (toward the very top of the release)?

The RST/RXT pressure plate was specifically designed with the factory stroke in mind. The aftermarket large bore master cylinders over-travel the pressure plate fingers farther than they need to go for a clean release. We recommend using a stock replacement master cylinder and hydraulic bearing.
