Default shifter stop screws or not

I have searched and come up with 2 different stories on the stop screws. One posat had an exert from I think B&M that said to not use them. Then I heard somone else say that you cant overshift the transmission and heard from another that you can overshift and to use them.

So, use them or not?

I went had the same question recently and found out that it is a MUST to set these right. If not you can damage the internals (sliders or synchros i think) anyways what happens is that without the stops the shifter will allow too much extension inside the case which damages these parts. I contacted B&M and they told me that yes you have to set them right. In future designs they plan on taking them away by changing the design.

Borg Warner and Tremec have always stated that the T56 has internal stops, making the shifter stops unnecessary. To a certain extent, I agree. They're basically not needed 99% of the time.

BUT, with the propensity of the 3/4 synchro to overtravel, I would recommend getting a shifter with them (for that reason alone) and setting them with fourth gear shift travel in mind.

I've had a ripper for going on three years without the stops, no problems

B&M says you don't need them but if you race to use them... it can't hurt.. it takes 5 mins to adjust... Mine rattled when I didn't adjust them My buddy adjusted them for me and I'm a happy camper
