Default Got my 12k mile factory clutch out, found defective part

My 2000 ws6 has 12k miles and is not beaten on,still stock on almost bald factory goodyears.Broke clutch the other day shifting from 3rd to fourth not beating on it but not babying it like 3/4 throttle or so and when i put it in forth i hear this sound that is nasty and the car was not moving, barley got it home and rip the clutch out last night to find a perfect flywheel,no burn marks, real nice pressure plate and lots of meat on the clutch disk with no obvious signs of a problem>I took the clutch disk apart to find the busted part.its the last part of the clutch disk that is splined to the input shaft.the disk turned and the part sheard off of its 4 connecting corners. It has to be a defective part just because the bald tires should spin before this thing breaks.I could only see something like this happening if i had slicks doing some nasty clutch dumps.Has anyone ever heard of something like this cuz i havent.

No offense, but if you balded a set of tires in 12K miles you're probably not exactly babying it...

ok they are not bald but they are getting there they look the same as the fronts with about 1/8 inch tread left,And the factory tires wear real fast and like **** i heard.I bought the car with 10k miles i have put the last 2 on it i know that i baby it and i really dont think the person i bought it from beat on it ,just from looking at the rears being the same as the fronts and the brakes look new still.I was going extreme saying the tires are bald.they are on verge of passing inspection if thet helps.

To shear the input shaft hub in the disc the clutch was dumped hard. It has happened B-4 to others it is not a defective part, just the result of some hard driving.

I have never dumped the clutch on this car though,The guy i got it from must have dumped it a few to many times and made it weak because seriously ,If i beat on a clutch like that i would expect it to be barley holding together too.I just didnt think it could be done on factory street tires thats all.,but it obviously can be.

Yeah. My computer geek friends let their gearhead friends drive their cool cars. 12k and broken disc = beat no matter how convincing the geek was.

No really though i was going like a grandma when the part did break i wasnt beatin on her and one thing i dont do is dumping the clutch or burnout because they are just not appealing to me.i open her up every now and then but by no means pushing the car hard.

My clutch disk sheared in the same spot as yours. I was shifting hard to 3rd when it happened. All I can say is be thankfull that's what broke and not the tranny. I was very happy and relieved to find a busted disk when I took mine apart.
Just installed the Z06 clutch kit yesterday and she works like a champ. Is there a break-in period for the Z06 or just the SPEC?

Most every clutch I've owned ( Z06 incl. ) recommend 500 miles b4 ripping.
