Default Spec 3 shim or no shim?

With the spec stage 3 with their billet flywheel did you use the supplied metal shim or no shim? They didn't even sound too sure when I called their tech support

I had my tranny rebuilt and when I got it back it made noise, so it had to come out again... the first time I forgot to use the shim, the second time around I used it. Pedal feels great.

Heh, after some of the Spec 3 horror stories, I didn't know what to expect, but all is good as of right this very moment. The clutch is actually very smooth, something you'd never associate with this clutches' reputation.

Shim used. Engagement was a little low for me right after the install but got better along with the chatter. 650 miles later, there's no chatter at all. And I did beat it up pretty good already after running 10 or so passes in one afternoon with some hot laps.

I then threw that infamous 3-2 up, I mean downshift at it too just for good measure

I hope it lasts...

Put it in. It moves the slave just a hair closer to the pressure plate. Why? so the slave is able to push in the fingers a hair farther(disengages the clutch a little more), to prevent the clutch getting hot. Sometimes hard and fast shifts dont let the clutch fully disengage, this helps a lot to prevent that.

Spec 3 here, used the shim and broke her in for the recommended 400 miles. After that, there's been no chatter, and the pedal feels like stock, maybe just a little stiffer. Took it to the strip once, split my driveshaft in two and sheered some spider gears also (both on the second launch) so I know the clutch is grabbing like a ****. Clutch is still holding great and it's been atleast 7 months.

Use the shim.

SilverZ98 - the shim looks like a large flat washer with 2 slots in it. It goes between the slave and the trans. It will move the slave closer to the pressure plate.

Thanks guys. I got the trans stabbed in last night. Gotta finish up the install and see how it goes.
