Default Sbc To T-56

i bought a ls1 t-56 not knowing it was unique to that style engine

anyone know if someone make and adapter to botl to a standard sbc then to bolt to a t-56 (meaning you bolt the adapter to hte engine then bolt the tranny to the adapter

i was thinking this would solve teh diference in the bellhousing and space the tranny back enough to be able to use an ls1 tranny on a non ls1 engine

anyone know of where i can find one or who could make one?

thanks for all the help

You need the bellhousing from an lt1 t56. You will probably need a flywheel for 2 pc rear main seal also, if that is what your motor is. If its 1 piece you should be fine with the flywheel you have.

Mcleod makes a spacer (90$) that goes between the bellhousing and tranny to correct for the input shaft length. The bellhousing will bolt to the block, it just uses 1 less bolt hole than a standard sbc bellhousing. I'm not sure about the best flywheel/clutch if using this combination.
I think the Weir kit is in the the 500+ dollar range

I had a 1980 Camaro I was interested in putting a 502 BBC backed by a T-56. The project was replaced by my 2000 Formula but anyway here is some links of interest.

http://www.ddperformance.com/GM%20T56.htm

http://www.nastyz28.com/cgi-bin/foru...e=5&LastLogin=

http://home.cfl.rr.com/todd80z28/

The first link is a sponsor here I believe. They machine a plate that bolts to the front of a t-56 and allows the use of any muncie bellhousing.

The second link is to a 2nd gen camaro board. There are lots of members there running 6 speeds behind sbc and bbc. Some use the modified tranny and some use stock LT1 and LS1 setups.

Hope this helps you.

i would assume that with the spacer you oculd use a stock clutch kit, all it does is corrects the depth of everything

anyone got a link for the bellhosing spacer? cant seem to find it on there site

thanks for the help guys

Here is a pic of the D&D plate installed. I am not sure if they sell the plate separately. The other 2 links have lots of info on installing a stock T-56 into old school muscle.

I have one of those I could stand to get rid of. PM me if interested.

As far as clutches, I don't think the 168 tooth flywheel (from a truck) will fit the LS1 bellhousing (it won't fit the LT1 bellhousing) so you're good to go with a 10.5" disc & 153 tooth wheels.

so what bells could i hook to the tranny if i used the adapter plate

maybe something from an older camaro tranny like a t-5
didnt some of those come with 168 tooth flywheels? because if they did i could still use my zo6 clutch

and im assuming i would use the old style slave clutch fork combo? because that would be cool with me, i just realy need to get this tranny in

thanks for all the help guys

D&D states that it can be used with any muncie, saginaw, t-10 bellhousings. I have an 11" bellhousing off a old style tranny. Not sure which one but if you get the adapter and can verify that it will work with the bellhousing I will let it go pretty cheap.

Go to www.mcleodind.com and call the tech line. Red will give you all the part numbers you need. You will need an adapter plate and a special pilot bushing. I have the exact same setup in my El Camino and I'm using an older style '621' bellhousing (aluminum). The '621' bellhousing will hold a 168 tooth flywheel. You can probably find one on eBay. Your other option would be to get a scattershield from McLeod or Lakewood. I don't think there are many 168 tooth bellhousings other than the ones made in the 60's and 70's from GM - there are some truck bellhousings that big, but the center holes for the trannies on those are much bigger and won't work with this adapter or any transmission you'll be using.
