Should I teach my GF how to drive stick in my T/A??
Dunno I have two vehicles, the t/a and my s10. The s10 is a 5speed but has a really wild cam.
Is there any risk of damage by stalling it a couple times?

Ya know what im going to go against the grain on this one, only because ive experienced this problem first hand. I taught my girlfriend how to drive stick on my 99 TA and I would have to say it was probably easier than teaching her on a lower horsepower vehicle. The LS1 is far more forgiving when it comes to not giving enough throttle when taking off ,it will damn near take off without any which helps when someone is learning (not too much hopping) she never had to ride the clutch like she would have in a smaller , lower HP vehicle ie.S10 Just my opinion.

Not saying ALL women can't drive a stick, but some have issues with automatics, let alone trying to learn how and when to shift. My wife doesn't want to learn how to drive a stick. She's not the greatest driver, and she knows what my car means to me. If we end up going somewhere where I think I won't drive back or I will be drinking a few beers, we'll take her car.
Honestly, if you end up really worrying about it, go to a couple of different car dealers, and you take a stick off the lot, do a Chinese fire drill 2 blocks away, and teach her in those cars. Not only does that save your vehicles, but also teaches about different types of clutch tensions.

Are you high? Buy some $500 pos beater to teach someone to drive a stick. That way, if they fubar it, you're out less than the cost of a good clutch for the TA. You have to remember, a beginner could rear-end someone at a stoplight by forgetting to put in the clutch, or blow the motor downshifting when they need to upshift, or any number of things worse than just frying your clutch.

Thanks for the input guys
Gametech-
Well I beleive the hardest part is teaching someone to take take off. Also if I do teach her it will be on some side streets and prolly not over 25. Still dunno if I'll let her drive the t/a.
The dam s10 is such a dog till 2,000 rpm I think it would be very oogly.

the parking lot is the best bro that is where i learned 3hrs before getting my first new car which was a stick. I stalled prolly like 4 or 5 times on the 15 min ride home.
I have the same dillemma, need to teahc my wife but have to problems a twin turbo c5 and a highly modified bmw m5. I wasted my chance with the 4cylinder isuzu rodeo i used to have but still need something. May go and test drive some stick cars for her to learn.

I just taught my girlfriend...she didn't stal out once and didn't really ride the clutch..I was shocked. I think ls1s are easier to drive because the clutch isn't so numb..you know when it starts to grab. so i told her at that spot..just give it a li more gas and let out the clutch a lil faster.

I was working with my GF in my GTO when it was stock. And now that I am planning on pulling the Tranny in a month or so anyways I am going to go ahead and work with her some more. Hopefully the Spec Stg. 3 isn't too much for her skinny legs!
But yeah, the way I see it is, it's only a car.

if it was my ex i wouldn't even bother, i taught her how to drive regular automatics and she was still terrible, and never did anything i taught her to do. she ended up in a bunch of accidents
but another ex was the one that taught me to drive stick, on her 95 escort wagon of all things. and the girl i bought my t/a from was good at stick, nothing better than a hot girl driving a hot car with a stick

I tried to teach my ex girl friend and my clutch took a crap on me a week later. I just took it as an excuse to upgrade to a better clutch. Its kinda up to you man, it is your car after all!

I wouldn't on a car like that. One clutch slip mistaken drop etc could be bad. I learned on a car with not too little power or not too much.
I'd look for something where a boo boo isn't going to be a risk.

Theres one point your not getting. Just remember once she learns to drive a stick shift then she won't leave you alone about driving your car. I made that mistake ONCE...... Thats was another good reason why I bought a unspung hub in my clutch and proshifted my tranny, now she has no clue how to drive it . Now I have a good excuse not to let her drive.

I would let her try it out in a parking lot.. Whats the worse that can happen? She stalls it a few times? Unless your clutch is on the way out anyways, who cares...
Keep a eye on her feet, make sure shes not resting her foot on the clutch.
