It almost sounds like the hydraulics(master & slave) rather then the tranny itself. Due to the engaging and disengaging factors.

Give Walt Leaman a call at ProMotion Performance in Ft Lauderdale. He did my second rebuild and its been running great. D&D did my first and does great work, but having to ship your tranny that far was expensive.
The number for ProMotion is (954) 771-5575

Default T56 died on me this morning

It should be inspected today, and estimates by Monday. Anyone have contact info for Westech & D&D?

Before it died:

- it was having a hard time engaging 1st gear off idle, but would slide in once the car moved a bit.

- 5th gear would not engage at all...almost like all the gear teeth were torn off. It wouldn't grind trying to engage, but felt as if it was trying to mesh with a smooth surface.

- After being in 6th gear for awhile on the interstate, it becomes very difficult to get it out of 6th gear unless coming to a complete stop.

Add'l symptoms after this morning:

- Clutch in, any forward gear engaged, tranny makes whirring sound

- Can creep forward by riding the clutch. Any faster causes severe bucking and metallic noises!

- It's not under warranty

- I read about Walt in another thread...but the car isn't driveable. I'm not towing the car from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Mueller, When Mikey gets back, have him pull it, take it over to Lamotta's Performance. Have Jake go through it. He will tell you the parts you will need. Call Joe @ D&D and order the parts from him. They are alot cheaper than the dealer. I know Jake is a Mustang guy but the T-5 in Mustangs are just a T-56 without 6th.

He fixed mine a few months ago and it's still fine.

Richie-

I don't remember when Mikey gets back fmo the coast, but I'm going on a roadtrip starting the 18th, and doubt I can wait that long.

Besides, Mike was so swamped with work he didn't have time to install my adjustable master until after he returned from vacation. I doubt his situation would be any better anytime soon.

I had it towed to Corvette Masters in the Fern Park area. They couldn't get to it Friday due to the rain, but told me to call back by noon to get the details. They said they always measure all the distances in the tranny components during install to insure a good setup. I'm sure the dealership doesn't do that and I haven't seen Mike do it in my presence.

They're going to get me an estimate for a rebuild with dealership parts and at least one with aftermarket parts. I want to see the parts cost and see if I can get it less expensively from direct from D&D or Westech.

Initial inspection shows that the disc was obliterated in the center, and the planetary set is toast. The wear pattern on the rest of the clutch looked almost new. Still unclear which action and/or part gave up the ghost.

Ordered a replacement disc & pilot bearing for $150 from SPEC which will be to them on Wednesday. Inquired about a Stage III disc, but didn't want to mess with chatter nor hitting the rear-end harder on the stock 10-bolt.

Barring too many interruptions, they should have a checklist of replacement parts tomorrow.

Clutch system: Only thing wrong with it was that (pardon my lack of technical terms) two pieces of metal which run around and through the springs on the disc hub broke. The rest of the disc remained unaffected. This was a SPEC Stg II kevlar. David @ SPEC didn't offer any warranty, even though he advertises it at 450rwhp and I'm at 390-400.

Tranny: To be on the safe side, R&R'ed the tranny with D&D parts. There wasn't any damage as a result of this mishap, but a couple of broken retainers and some shredded metal which ate a few teeth on the 5th/6th drive/driven gears were found.

Extras: They found that one of my bellhousing bolts was stripped earlier in it's life, and couldn't heli-coil it without removing the engine due to proximity with frame. They also had to heli-coil two bolts to attach the new slave, as they apparently were fubar as well. They had a helluva time getting the McLeod adjustable to line up through the firewall.

We may still have a problem with the McLeod unit. It lost pressure after 30 miles. The shop pumped the pedal a couple dozen times and got the pressure back. We're not sure what caused it but I don't know if I should be concerned. They want to swap the OEM unit back in and warranty replace the McLeod unit. I need a proven reliable solution within three days, and I can deal with the alternative after my roadtrip.

There's also a lot more engine noise coming from the firewall area where the pedals are located. The shop also lost the driver side AIR restrictor mod so that sound is irritating me as well.
